Nirsoft software detected as infected

Hi
1.Please advise if the attached log is reporting false positives.
2.The software maker is aware that some AV are reporting this software as infected, please see here:

http://www.nirsoft.net/false_positive_report.html

and here:

Thanks

Many companies are reporting that Nirsoft software it’s malware… it’s not just 1 company or 2… it’s MANY.

But try to send a file to http://www.virustotal.com/ to see which AV’s and anti-malware tools are reporting malware or not and post the results here.

It’s a PUP for avast…

As per Jotti`s online scanner and virus total, AVAST did not redetect most of the logged items.
What should I conclude then ? that some times it is a malware and some times not so ?
IMHO a malware is malware all of the time, although it could be active some of the time, it still malware at all times.

Well, if it is PuP detection do you not have Scanning for PuP’s checked either in your on-demand scanning or in the real-time shields?

Scaning for PuP’s is not checked by default, and online scanners usually use default settings.

PuP is only bad if you did not ask for the program. If you knew it was there and put it there yourself, then it is ok.

yep exactly, nirsoft being mainly a producer of password crackers etc… it’s more than normal to find it listed among Avast PUP.

It’s a PUP: it could be consider a malware or it could be considered a tool.
It’s not infected, it’s a PUP.

Thanks for yor reply.
