I wonder could someone help me with rather unusual problem. Every time I want to update databases or program (it is avast! Free edition 6.0.1289) it gives me that annoying: “Cannot connect to server” message! I tried to do uninstall via ordinary Win uninstaller, then installed it again, nothing. Then I tried your specially designed uninstaller, again installed it, and again it failed.
At first I tried completely disabling firewall, but it didn’t help.
Could you give me some advice what to do? Is there a solution to this annoying problem? My OS is Win XP SP3.
DavidR,
thank you for your kind answer. I tried mentioned procedure, but with no luck. My firewall is Ashampoo FireWall, but those above mentioned problems were the same with ZoneAlarm. My OS is WinXP with SP3 installed. Thanks.
As far as I know, Avast and Ashampoo firewall are not compatible…Unless there have been changes made by the 2 companies…But people with XP3 have issues with the 2 of them together…I am using PC Tools Frewall Plus 7 free on my XP with no exclusions on either side, and been running awesome for the last few years…Also the 2 of them are very light on resources and footprint…Other Avast users may suggest different Firewalls and many do run OK with Avast…
As has been mentioned the Ashampoo firewall isn’t compatible. Some time ago a user reported this to Ashampoo support and asked how to get round it, their answer was no and you should uninstall it. Ashampoo had many good applications, the firewall wasn’t one of them.
Personally I’m no fan of ZA either, you will however, find the odd advocate for it in the forums.
