While AVG and others gave an email scanning progress indicator at the lower right, Avast4 just had a tray icon appear. It was better than nothing. I see nothing at all indicating incoming email progress in Avast5. Any hope?
Um, why do you need it ? I’m just asking so please be patient with me You could check the activity monitor and see if the mail shield is working.
The icon rotates… seems enough as visual information that something is being scanned in my opinion.

Yeah, I do watch the blinking monitors (on XP) and the the spinning avast icon. But, if there’s other network activity at the time, it doesn’t tell me much, For long email downloads, AVG has the nicest nn% done popup, and avast4 at least told you, with the tray icon, that something was coming down from the POP3 server.
I can live with less but it’s a step backward.

Yeah, but you really never see what’s being scanned. Since the IE progress bar means nothing when an AV scans incoming mail, it’d be nice to know what, if anything is going on.
Just my oppinion.
Important is to know that it works and scans your mails.
There’s no need to see every scan of a mail unless something is found, imo.
asyn
Um, you get a progress indicator or such when downloading mail in your mail app… avast checks it, really why do you need avast to show a progress bar ?
Frankly I’d rather the developers fix bugs than add more complexity to the code for more bells and whistles.
OK. Don’t let’s get worked-up. I like avast better than AVG because it’s just BETTER! I just missed the progress indicator (just an icon) in avast4, and now no indicator at all in 5. I"ll live with it.
BTW: The IE indicator jumps from 0% To 100% when the mail is scanned by an AV program. That’s useless and why AVG shows its own.
