Sorry for the newbie question, but I am losing my hair here.
I recently removed all Norton Software and replaced it with Avast and Online Armor (firewall).
The problem I have now is that in IE6 and IE7 I do no longer see Google ads and Javascripts do not run either. I did not change any of the IE options, but to make sure I checked and ‘scripting’ is still enabled as well as activeX controls, etc. in ‘custom level’. In Firefox I do not have this problem. I tried to pause and stop the Avast script blocker, but still no Google ads nor javascripts in IE. If some of you wonder why I like Google ads and IE that much: I have them on my websites and need to check how to look like in IE6, as most of my visitors still use that browser.
I tried several things, like making Firefox my default browser, just to see if opening IE not as default browser would change something and that’s how I discovered that in the start menu it says ‘Internet Explorer (no ads-on’). When I open the browser, it says I can revert to having the browser with ads-on by closing the browser and reopening it, but when I do that I keep getting the IE (no ads-on) version.
Can someone please help me ?
avast doesn’t block ads, but scans and alerts to infection.
It could possibly be remnants of Norton, even after an uninstall.
A link worth looking at, which is a program removal tool that can remove the remnants of a number of different Norton Programs:
Removing your Norton program using SymNRT
Thanks David, I’ll try that.
Is there any known incompatibility between Avast and Online Armor, as I installed both to replace my NAV and Norton firewall ?
Sorry I don’t know much about on-line armor, but as a firewall it should be a problem I would have thought. If it were going to be a problem it would normally be blocking ashWebSv.exe (the Web Shield), which effectively would mean blocking all internet access (http traffic).
But only blocking certain ads and javascript is strange even for a firewall.
