It’s been two months now and I still cant get the avast icon to automatically come on in the taskbar, it has to be manualy turned on.Window 8 action center says all is well but no icon.Everything is set for it to come on but nada. anyone out there with a new idea.
Repair if that doesn’t work, a clean install.
@ Bob
marc-d-l already has a monster topic on this and virtually everything has been thrown at it (including Repair and clean install), just missing the kitchen sink.
The kitchen sink appears to be in Prague.
I’m new to this group, so I don’t know what has been posted on this problem in the past
I lost my Avast icon one time, and got it back like this:
Type taskbar in the search box.
Then click on show or hide inactive icons on the taskbar.
You should then see all your icons, and be able to show the ones you want.
You also have to enable the icon in Avast settings.
All has been tried.I was hoping someone had a secret tip that they had forgotten about. Its realy is the pit not knowing if its on or not
According to Microsoft, you could have a corrupt user profile. You might want to try this.
There is a free news server that has a good Windows 8 newsgroup, and you can get help there.
The Usenet server is: http://albasani.net/index.html.en
If you do decide to join, subscribe to: alt.comp.os.windows-8
If you don’t know anything about Usenet groups, and would like to join, I will be glad to help.
That’s the problem, by starting a new topic all the previous suggestions are lost, so you are very likely to just get duplicate suggestions.
Thanks everyone for your help, but even after reinstalling windows 8 from scratch avast just doesn’t seem to work the way it’s suppose to.I chose the security suit that’s provided by my internet provider. Not my first choice but I still use avast on my other two pc’s. IF anyone hears of any solution let me know.(beside trowing windows 8 in the garbage) Or maybe this PC is just a big lemon. :o
I have Windows 8 on 3 different computers all of them are protected by avast!.
They are both 32 and 64 bit computers all running Windows 8 Pro.
No problems with Windows 8 or avast!8
Bob, is there a way in win8 of placing a shortcut in the Start Menu - Programs - Startup as there was in XP, where you could place a shortcut link to avastUI.exe ?
I can’t find it in win7 and to add insult to injury the areas I’m looking at I get access denied. I bloody hate win7 still, its my computer and have admin privileges and have taken ownership and I’m still denied, I bloody hate it.
@David and marc-d-l
Winpatrol has the ability to add items to the startup menu.
Why not simply use it ???
I haven’t doe it since I don’t have the problem and don’t want to invent one.
I wasn’t aware winpatrol worked in win8, but since I don’t have win8, I can’t test that theory. But why the hell should it be so damn difficult, the price of progress.
I haven’t needed to add a startup entry in win7, I went looking to see if there was a way only to be totally frustrated as who the machine belongs to, it seems it isn’t mine and I have been frustrated by this since day one.
The machine is yours. The OS is Microsoft’s and they make sure you never forget it… ;D
There are a great number of people running Winpatrol with Windows8.
Hi!
Since 2013 I had that (no avast-icon) occasionally under ‘XP Pro’ and somebody here told, that this can happen. But we can be sure, that avast works. So everytime that happened, I checked with ‘Task-Manager’ and avast did work.

I had the same problem. I was told to just do a re install and it appeared. All seems ok now.
