Hallo,
since the last programm-update (version 4,7,844) the automatic update is not working… ???
What can be the reason and what can I do, to eliminate it ? Many thanks for help-me !
Regards, horbar
After a program updfate elements change and if you have a firewall that checks outbound connections, it will challenge, if you deny access it can’t connect.
What is your firewall ?
Does it allow access for avast.setup ?
Hallo DavidR,
my firewall is OutPost and it “allow” access for avast.setup !!
It was working everytime perfectly but since
Avast-version 4.7.844 it works only manual :
regards horbar
What is the full details of the error message, do a manual update or check the avast Log Viewer, Errors, or windows event viewer (if you have XP), antivirus.
You could also delete the entry for avast.setup in OP Applications and do a manual update OP will ask again allow it as a trusted application.
…in avast LogViewer nothing appear…I deleted “avast.setup”
in OP-Applications as you sad it…but doing a manual update, OP does not ask again…only avast advise:“no server-conection”…and for reinstall “avast.setup” in OP,
I can not find this “exe” in Progr./Alwil Software/Avast4…?
Please where can I find this “Avast.setup.Exe” ??Please help-me.
regards horbar
What is the full details of the error message ?
If the avast.setup entry isn’t there OP should ask, which version of Outpost are you using ?
The avast.setup file isn’t a permanent file but made from setup.ovr at the time of update and would be in this location C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\Setup\avast.setup so you could enter that manually.
Check out the file size of the following file C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\Setup\servers.def, what is it ?
You sad:
If the avast.setup entry isn’t there OP should ask…but does not
ask, as I sad before…my OP-Version: 3,51 (462)
in this location:
C:\ProgramFiles\AlwilSoftware\Avast4\Setup"avast.setup"
does not exist
Check out the file size of the following file C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\Setup\servers.def, what is it : look the attach please!..in this file you find 61 avast-download-servers
…is it possible to get a full programm-update includ the “avast.setup” for OP ? and without loosing my avast-configuration
…I am realy afraid to go in the internet without Avast-avs-updates
please help me.
regards horbar
My version is also 3.5 so no difference really, I deleted avast.setup and tried a manual update and up popped the challenge by Outpost (see image), so I’m a little baffled yours didn’t.
There is something is wrong with your attachment it is 0KB (so if you just changed the file type to .jpg) that is why I have been banging on about the full text of the error message (because it could refer to downloading from 0), this helps us to help you ?
I don’t need a copy of your servers.def file, just its file size in explorer, if the servers.def file is 0KB then it is corrupt, that file contains the servers list and without it no updates.
The servers.def file would appear to be corrupt or 0KB, C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\Setup\servers.def . You can try and download the servers.def file, http://files.avast.com/iavs4x/servers.def replace the original and try again. Perhaps because the file is corrupt OP isn’t getting to a point where it would challenge because it has no servers address to connect to.
hello DavidR,
please look once more on my modified Posting before…what do you mean about a full update and how to realise-it?
my servers.def-file contains 61 avast-download-servers…
it does’nt seem to be corrupt…but I will dry to download from http://files.avast.com/iavs4x/servers.def and to replace it…
tomorrow I will continue…
regards horbar
I’m sorry I can’t see what you have changed in your edited post as I can’t recall what was there before.
I can’t see anywhere that I have mentioned ‘full update’ so I don’t understand either sorry ?
??Please help-me.You still haven't provided the full text of the error message, it helps us to help you, there really is no point my asking if you don't answer. This really should be the nub of the problem and without information, I'm guessing and that isn't helping either of us.
As I have said previously avast.setup isn’t a permanent file, it only exists for the duration of the update, so even if you reinstalled avast it wouldn’t be there, until you attempt an avast update. At that point OP should challenge you about avast.setup as in my previous image.
You can manuall add an entry for avast.setup in OP see image.
…I am very sorry,that I cause-you so much trouble…the reason
is my poor english-knowledge…
You can manuall add an entry for avast.setup in OP see image.but this does'nt work.....the answer: "can not find this file"....... the "avast-log-viewer-errors" no contains error-message......but just now, after stopping avast-webshild and "proxomitron-Proxy" and going with the browser direcktly in the Net, I arrived over manual-AVS-update,that OP challenged and asked for create roules for avast.setup....am so happy.... ;D but now it is still not clear, if "avast-automatic-updates" works ??? in each case thank you very much for your patience and help :) regards horbar
When you previously tried to update you got a Red pop-up by clicking the more info or details it should have provided more detailed information about the error.
but just now, after stopping avast-webshild and "proxomitron-Proxy" and going with the browser direcktly in the NetNow we come to the most crucial piece of information - the use of an anonymous proxy.
When using an anonymous proxy like proxomitron (I’ve never used it) you may need to have that setup with the avast, Program Settings, Update (Connections), Proxy button. Try entering the Proxomitron proxy details, see image. Also check the avast help file, Settings, Update (Connections), Proxy, More Information.
You might also want to do a forums search for proxomitron as I’m sure this has been covered previously.
my basic problem was: with the version 4.7.844 “automatic-avast- update did’nt work”…
but manual update worked perfectly !
no any problem with and by proxomitron until now.
proxomitron is really a very good filterprogramm and works with FireFox over Port 8080 already longtime.
my Settings in avast- Update (Connections) are o.k.
I think that the reason that OP did’nt challenge was in OP self…
but this problem is over and manual-update works like before…
if automatic-update now works too, is still not proved :-
if not, my problem continue :
regards horbar
…and now it is sure: Avast-Update-Automatic is not working ???
…and no any error-popup :-\ … only manual-update works…what can be the reason?
Regards horbar
no any answer ???
therefore i dry to ask lately referring to:
from: DavidR in a post from Juli 97 / 10:54 "There is no set number per week, they are released as required, it averages out around 3-4 per week and often more. I have seen as many as 4 in a day, each time you connect to the internet avast will check to see if any VPS updates are available and every 4 hours if you remain connected".but in my case: Avast-Update-"Automatic" is not working ...and no any error-popup ..... only manual-update works......what can be the reason? thanks for help ! regards horbar
Hi Horbar :
Perhaps this from Avast's "FAQ"s is involved :
http://www.avast.com/eng/webshield_issues.html
"Q: On my PC I am running another HTTP proxy (e.g. Proxomitron, WebWasher ...).
It is listening on localhost and on port 3128 (or any other port).
If I set-up ‘Web Shield’ to monitor the proxy port, and uncheck the “Ignore local communication” checkbox, it works correctly but I want Web Shield to scan downloads even before my HTTP proxy. Is this possible?
A: Only processes that are known not to cause troubles are filtered by Web Shield. These include common browsers and many other tools already identified as compatible with Web Shield. Unfortunately your HTTP proxy software is currently not on our approved list. You can however add it manually by editing the avast4.ini file.
Open the file avast4.ini located in C:\PROGRAM FILES\ALWIL SOFTWARE\AVAST4\DATA in Notepad.
Find the section [WebScanner]
In this section add the following line:
OptinProcess=my_proxy.exe
(Replace the my_proxy.exe value with the real process name of your proxy app.) If the OptinProcess line is already present in the avast4.ini file, you can add another process name to the list by separating them by commas. E.g.:
OptinProcess=my_proxy.exe, my_browser.exe
Restart the Web Shield provider - terminate and then start again
Note: Web Shield will monitor and intercept all outgoing connections from the HTTP proxy application. Do not use this method when the proxy does not “speak” the HTTP protocol. E.g.: it does not connect directly to Internet Web servers but is used to provide compression or encryption to the data stream. (This might include all kinds of Internet accelerators) "
Hello Spiritsongs,
