No WebRep in FF after Beta and even back to stable avast

I’ve uninstalled avast beta and FF 9 after going up from 8. I’m back to FF 8 and still not webrep. Any suggestions on how to get it back? (It says it’s installed on the avast UI.) It is not even listed as an add-on in FF.

Thanks

Close FF.
Uninstall from avast gui and install again ???

I’m not sure that will work. As I said before with FF8 you get the interface to allow 3rd party addons. This it is said is meant to be a one off on upgrade from firefox 7.0.

So having got FF8 and the webrep isn’t working, I asked if you (or someone I directed this question at) got this interface and if you had allowed webrep, but you didn’t answer. If you didn’t allow the webrep you had gone past the one off opportunity to allow it.

You then went to FF9 and back to FF8, presumably these were clean installs, in which case FF8 and later would be blocking 3rd party add-ons.

Perhaps you may have to go back to FF7 clean install get the avast webrep running and then upgrade to FF8 via the internal program update. Now you should get that interface during the install about 3rd party add-ons.

That is all I can think of.

That should be avast’s UI for WebRep.

“When you updated to firefox 8.0 you should have had an add-on screen to allow you to enable third party add-ons such as the webrep, did you get that and check the option to allow webrep?”

Reply: Yes, I’m almost certain I did. Is there a way to go back and confirm this?
I have done the repair and it’s still the same.

Thanks for the suggestions. I just uninstalled FF8, then installed 7. Still no webrep.

(I was on vacation and was killing time and thought everything was running fine and got rid of old rollback locations. Stupid me. Never again.)

Missed the “Yes, I’m almost certain I did. Is there a way to go back and confirm this?” I don’t believe there is any way to confirm that, as all the historic data would be gone and I’m not even sure if it would be recorded in the firefox profile. If that profile still exists, that could be what is blocking the webrep as a 3rd party add-on. So any subsequent attempts would be blocked, I think that profile needs to be completely removed and this doesn’t always happen when you uninstall firefox.

You have been doing a lot following various suggestions to try and get this back so it may be best to do a clean install of firefox 7 (having removed all traces of firefox including profile) and reinstall avast with firefox 7.0 still installed.

I don’t think an avast repair would have had any impact as it won’t repair what isn’t installed, the webrep or blocked by firefox 8.

But first you really need to get the webrep working with firefox 7 before trying to update from the firefox 7 GUI.
