Non Op "APPLY" Button

Hello All,

I’ve just downloaded the avast! “free” version. I ran a custom scan and the software discovered 6 “high threat” viruses/trojans on my laptop.

I clicked on the drop-down box in the lower right hand corner and selected “DELETE”. I then clicked on the “APPLY” button, but it was NOT highlighted and did not respond to the command.

I’ve installed and uninstalled avast! twice. It discovered the same threats and the “APPLY” button, once again, did not respond. It is NOT highlighted to carry out the command.

Is there another task which needs to be done before the “APPLY” button responds?

Or, does this option work only with the paid subscription?

Any help would be most gratefully received.

Many thanks for taking the time to respond!

What kind of scan did you run?
Actions are not available for some objects, e.g. detections in memory.
Also, what exactly (and where) was detected?

Also, it is not good to delete them right away. It is best to select to send them to the Chest which is a protected area where they can do no harm.

Hello Igor!

Thank you for your prompt reply.

Here is the scan I ran:

All hard disks
System drive
Rootkits
Operating memory of the computer
Auto-Start programs

Here is what the avast! software found:

INF: Auto Run-AL [WRM]
WIN32 Gremo
HTML: Iframe-HW [TRJ]
WIN 32 Small-HUF [TRJ]
Bleah-D

Hope this helps and answers your question

you dont say what files that was detected and where they where found
can you attach a screen shot of the scan result?

anyway if you selected scan memory…then dont do that as it give some weird results

O.K.,

Here is this mornings “screen shot”. never done a screen shot before; I hope this works.

Joaquin.

You are OK.

Those file are virus signatures belonging to Windows Defender. They are loaded into memory and when you set avast! to do a custom scan selecting memory, they are detected. Memory scan will give some weird result sometimes. It is better to avoid it if you do not know what you are looking at.

You will find using the default “full system” scan is fine. Most of us run a weekly quick scan. Me, I do a quick scan twice a week
and a full scan every other week. I finally got smart a full scan every week is definitely over kill.

To all of you who responded to my request for help on the “APPLY” button problem.

I want to THANK YOU, each and every one of you! You have done me a very great service and I am so very grateful!

You are the best!

I’m sure everyone involved will agree that you are welcome to our help.

A little more information for you:

The reason the APPLY button did not work (greyed out) is because Avast! cannot quarantine memory files, as there is no physical file to move to the chest, as that area is the protected area for malicious files that can be moved there. Memory files cannot be moved to quarantine.

Always quarantine an infected file if possible, never delete. Once delete is chosen, that file is gone forever. Sometimes a clean system file is flagged as infected by a defective virus update, and delete will make a needed system file gone forever. This is known as a false positive detection, and all antiviruses have this happen to them at one time or another. So, take care to not delete when you can; that way you can investigate to see if the file is indeed infected, and if not, you can restore it back to it’s original location. No harm can come to you if you do leave an infected file in the virus chest for years, if you wish, so…
