Norton or Avast!?

Need some opinion…

Norton or Avast!?? ??? ??? ???

Please Post a comment and reply.

Cons and Pro…??

Thanks…

You really come to the wrong place for an objective unbiased answer, by its nature forum members are most likely to be using avast and won’t have Norton on their system as it will conflict. So they won’t be using norton to be able to compare.

However, there are many forum members who are ex norton users that are now happy avast users and for almost all the intital comment is that there system seems much faster and more responsive.

There are also many posts in these forums of problems of conflict with other applications even after an uninstall of norton requiring the use of another tool SymNRT to get rid of the debris even after an add remove programs uninstall.

thank’s for the comment… ;D ;D

Your welcome.

Norton or avast??!!! :o You’ve got to be kidding!!

Norton is powerful, but a real resource hog IMHO. Even McAfee got too big. I used McAfee for many years (since it would fit on a floppy), but it got too big too… started using active X processing for updates. No thank you.

avast all the way!!

Thanks, btw, to the alwil team for making the product better and better.

marcjessa, do you need more ex-Norton users to blame here? So, I’m another one.
Resource hog, little configurability, price (avast is free for home users), not a all-in-one-suite, etc. etc.

Norton? Not a chance!
I have used different versions of Norton on three different computers, with similar problems on all of them. Norton is horrible on a computer with limited resources, making everything unbelievably slow, causing some programs to freeze, etc. Scans were very slow on all three computers. Updates were often a problem, taking so long my connection would time out, then failing the next time because they had been interrupted. Uninstalling Norton is very difficult, as has been mentioned. On one occasion NIS required “my” password to uninstall; I had never used a password. Their “technical support” staff could not understand why I couldn’t just use the password I had set (I hadn’t set a password!). Their solution to this problem was, “Just uninstall it and re-install, then, that will bypass the password.” (But I couldn’t uninstall because…???) And Norton isn’t free. Those brilliant technical support people even suggested purchasing an additional year as a solution to my updating problem. I still had eleven months left at that time. I only found two or three viruses during the time I was using Norton, but who needs viruses when you have Norton?

Avast has been working great on all three of those computers, two of which have avast home, for more than a year, and causes no slow-downs or frozen programs. Updates don’t take long. I have uninstalled and re-installed avast on two computers with no problems. I have found no viruses since I started using avast, either with avast or with online scans. Avast is configured somewhat differently on each computer (they all have different users and different programs), which was reasonably easy for even a non-expert like myself to accomplish. And avast support is excellent.

Hmm… I’m an ex-norton user too… ;D ;D ;D

I just want opinion… that’s all…

now i conclude… Norton… not a chance…

I have in the past used both. At this time if I were to install one of the two it would be Avast.

avast! avast! avast! ;D

Norton from Symantec is the only AV that couldn’t clean or do anything with the viruses it detected on my PC 2 years ago. Avast Home is far-FAR AHEAD!!!

Norton is a resouce hog on PCs, and tbh not worth the money, while Avast Home outdoes it easily.
Im even updating to Pro soon xD

There is always a good chance that NAV will bring your machine to it’s knees. My advice: ‘Don’t’.

Hey, Lee… welcome back! 8)
That’s the major disadvantage of Symantec products.
