norton switched of and firewall too

So a week a ago i bought a new Laptop.
But today woke up and went to get some coffee and i came back at the computer had the message
" Because of a problem windows needed to restart your pc" etc…
And now norton has been switched off and windows says that fire wall needs to be put up , i click put to put up the firewall but nothing happens.
Nortons auto repair doesn’t work etc.
I haven’t downloaded anything (that i know off) not trust worthy.
And i have only visited trustworthy sites.
I have opened some spam email but i didn’t click anything on them.

My laptop has a windows 8 operating system!"

All help is appreciated!

Can I recommend if you are having problems with Norton that you visit the Norton Community?

I installed avast because it did a great job when i had my last laptop and i am running a full scan with avast at the moment etc…

I switched off my pc and put it on again and now everything seems to be ok
Can i trust it?

You shouldn’t have both Norton and Avast installed together. The two programs will clash, slow your system and make it unstable as well as actually make you less secure. You need to pick one and uninstall the other using the appropriate removal tool.

hi jani92jani,

As your antivirus and firewall programs are of paramount importance, both should always be running. Running two active resident a/v programs at the same time is strongly discouraged and is not recommended. Choose to keep either Norton or Avast! but uninstall one or the other using this site for remnant removal tools after one is uninstalled: http://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software/

Current issue with firewall and other is very likely due to running both Norton and Avast! at the same time. Expectation for doing so is that one would expect to get twice the protection, but, in practice, less protection is actually provided.

Second opinion web scanners are available that will scan your system without interfering with your resident active a/v: http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/ & http://www.pandasecurity.com/homeusers/solutions/activescan/ & https://www.virustotal.com/

virus total is useful when a file is found to be suspicious, malicious, and you can have 40+ a/v engines scan your uploaded file.

So, if you choose to use any of the three above tools, you have your second opinion without compromising or diminishing your very critical protection that your security programs provide for you.

When using a web scanning tool such as ESET, any detections made there may be a false positive, so always quarantine and research using virus total to get a third opinion if needed. Option to delete is final, and if the file detected is in error, you cannot restore your file if you choose to delete it.

Esset scan was clean!

Thanks for your help!
