not enough server storage is available to process this command

WinXP Pro w/ SP2

When trying to access a particular network share I receive the following error. “Not enough server storage is available to process this command”

According to MS an Antivirus may be the cause of this error. I tried adjusting the IRPStackSize, no joy.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/177078/

Only after uninstalling Avast Home Free can I access the share.

Any suggestions?

Also get the following in the Event Viewer.

"Event ID: 2011

The server’s configuration parameter “irpstacksize” is too small for the server to use a local device. Please increase the value of this parameter."

I experienced this problem after installing my disk imaging backup software.

Removing that software allowed the share to work again. I was referred to the IRPStackSize increase too, but found I needed to increase it by more than the initial amount of 3 recommended in the Microsoft article.

For what it’s worth my value is now set to 18 - no problems with accessing network share.

The only thing that fixes it, is removing Avast Home. The share is an external USB drive. All my other shares work fine.

May I just ask for clarification?

Is this an external USB drive on another machine that is network connected to the machine on which avast is installed

-or-

is this an external USB drive connected to the machine on which avast is installed?

Connected to the machine on which Avast is installed.

It’s not just Avast that is causing the problem. I tried 3 different AV apps, all with the same problem.

After a few combinations, it finally started working. Not sure exactly what I did. However I did set the IRPStackSize to 18, rebooted, installed Avast, then rebooted again.

Thanks for the help.

Sometimes we just have to take the happy “by chances” that happen along.

I’m glad it is working for you again and welcome to the avast! forum.
