Did you know that…
The lowest temperature reading for North America of -81 degrees was set at Snag, Yukon Territory on February 2, 1947. This value was in jeopardy on this date in 1982 when a reading of -96 degrees was recorded along an Alaskan highway west of Ft. Nelson, British Columbia. While this reading is considered accurate, it was not made official.
- Both my wife and I actually got e-mail from our employers with advice on how we should dress.
- Did you learn anything?
- Hehe, no. We dress in the usual way with Norwegian wool ;D
Now we all know, there’s DRY cold and there’s DAMP cold.
Having been brought up in Saskatchewan, Canada in Dry cold weather where the temps in winter averaged -25-35 degree below zero F. daily and
Now in British Columbia, Canada in Damp cold weather where winter temps average around -5-15 degree below zero.
Give me the Dry cold any day. I love -25 in the sun and not -10in the damp cloud.
craigb Much of the USA would love some 30 C. warmth. Right now even 20 C. would be great. 8)
Here in Oklahoma most of us will finally reach the low 40’s F. A real heat wave after 0 F. the last couple of days. 8)
We, here in Eastern Europe and Russia, only shrug our shoulders while listening to the apocalyptic tone of the news from North America. Of course, we know that people there aren’t accustomed for such weather but it’s a usual winter weather here.
There is an anecdote about the situation:
Severe frost and snow in America! What happens to the climate? Perhaps these are the effects of global warming.
You are wrong. It’s just Russian General Frost conducting his tactical exercises.
After a couple of weeks of our hot weather you’ll want that snow again ;D
Oodnadatta which is 1500 km’s from me hit 54c the other day, one of the reports I was watching showed the local pub owner cooking bacon and eggs on a shovel in the front yard 8)
54 C. That’s way too hot. Here in Oklahoma we do hit the 30 C. to 45 C. range during those hot summer days. But 54 C. (129 F.) is really hot.
I’m not too sure about eating bacon and eggs fried on a shovel.
Windchill and blizzard warnings here and most of eastern and central Canada. We’re expecting (or at least they’re forecasting) a relative “heat wave” for the coming weekend, supposed to reach a hair above freezing.
Yep I’ve done heaps of cooking on any metal clean surface up in Queensland & NT when I was camping a lot do out the holidays, and it safe a hell a lot of trouble during the day and at night back to the old fashion cooking way.
Yes, but what I always wondered was, who the idiot was that had their bare butt hanging out measuring the “Feels Like” wind chill
Well that feels like : lololo ;D ;D

I hear ya, but we Canadians do love talking about the weather and where I live the colder the better! Ahh the Canadian prairies, but getting back to “Feels like” wind chill, all I know is its darn cold!! We are expecting warmer weather though in a couple of days.
