So I have a dual boot Windows XP and Windows Vista Dell D830 Latitude Laptop.
The XP partition started freezing up in a weird way (weird pixels showed up and then CRASH), so I downloaded Avast (had been using microsoft security essentials)and ran a scan. It found a rootkit in a file called sig3.tmp (which couldn’t be deleted or cleaned or moved).
Soon after, the XP partition would boot, but then crash after about 2 minutes. I switched over to the Vista side and it ran fine. So I ran a few Virus scans (Kaspersky and Avast) from the Vista side and found nothing.
I reinstalled the video card driver for the XP side, and then logged on to the XP side. So far it has been working, but I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how I might go about making sure the computer is %100 okay.
Thanks for your time!
