Nothing to do with Avast but it's really annoying

When I click on “Show unread posts since you last visit” 2 more links open and I don’t know how to stop it.

See screenshot.

Guess I should have captured the whole page.

Where are you seeing that?

Two links advertising Norton open whenever I click on show unread posts since your last visit and show new replies to your posts. I’ve read the whole page about Norton but with exception of clicking on a Norton email address it doesn’t show anything else that would let me stop opening the links.

But which site is this on ?

I guess it’s Norton’s website. Whenever I type in another url it shows the same advertisement.

So your browser is being redirected to Norton?

What happens if you type in www.google.com?

I use these forum features extensively and I have NEVER seen this redirection that you mention; I just get a list of posts, since the last visit.

What browser are you using and do you have any search toolbars/add-ons in that browser ?
Try a different and see if the same thing happens with that ?

I’m using Firefox and I don’t have any toolbars but I do have some add-ons, the same as I had when using Windows 7. It doesn’t do that on IE11.

Try running firefox with the add-ons disabled and see if that stops it.

If it does then you are going to have to pinpoint the add-on that is causing this.

I’ll do that but I have the same add-ons as I did on Windows 7.

Add-ons are frequently updated, so whilst you had the same on your old system they could have been updated since then.

I'm using Firefox and I don't have any toolbars but I do have some add-ons, the same as I had when using Windows u. It doesn't do that on IE11.

I don’t see any ads. Which version of FF are you using and what are the addons ???

Firefox, same as yours.

Have you run it yet with add-ons disabled ?

Just guessing but are you by chance using Norton DNS for your DNS provider? That would be the only explanation I can think of.

I dont know use it so I wouldnt know how their service opperates but then again if it only happens in firefox and not IE then I dont know what could be causing it.

  1. disable all add ons. if the problem is still there you have a browser hijack issue.

  2. Run a Malwarebytes scan to see if that finds the problem.

  3. You should dump a most of those add ons, you have several items there that do the same job and avast covers almost all of them.

The other tool to use to remove this problem would be this >>> ADWCleaner

After disabling all add-ons this comes up twice whenever I click on show unread post, show replies to your posts. It also shows up in my Firefox tool bar.

Captured the full page but got an error message saying the file is to large.

It’s the XXX. at the beginning that’s a little suspicious in that link ???
May be time for a malware Expert to chime in on this one ???

I put the xxxx on the link.
