Yanno, I understand that you have to moneterise your product in some fashion, in order to continue in business. However, I am not in business myself and to be told twice a day that “Avast is free for business!”, coupled with the fact that I had to disable a recent browser update as it had installed a shopping toolbar, means I am considering ditching your malware, permanently.

Think on’t.

Always perform custom installs so you are able to uncheck the features not required, If you don’t want ad’s at all then you’ll have to purchase one of the paid versions.

I did perform a custom install. There was no mention of a shopping toolbar. I only found it, post install, when it pestered me. After checking Firefox add-on settings and realising that there were additional options requiring me to scroll down the page I was viewing, I disabled the add-on.

The purpose of an anti-virus program, is to protect me from, precisely the sort of recent regular intrusion that Avast is indulging in. I note that the post-update attempts to install chrome and hijack my browser settings have, thankfully, been stopped.

I don’t mind occasional ads, but pestering me with irrelevant notifications is eroding the goodwill I have for the product.

AOS ( avast Online security ) add-on is definitely in the list of features to be installed via a custom check so I guess you missed it.

It takes a second to click off the ad’s if you don’t want to see them and I’m sure there are a lot of people who are happy to know of a free business version, as I stated if you don’t wish to see ad’s whatsoever then you’ll need a paid version.

When you are installing a program update and it suggests including AOS as a Firefox add-on, there is no mention of a shopping toolbar.

Well the tool bar is for other features of AOS ( used to be webrep ) as well, not just SafePrice.

I don’t use Firefox or AOS so I’m not exactly sure what you see or how it differs to the IE version but for myself all features are unchecked bar the three main shields in the left column.

Do you think installing a shopping toolbar is an integral part of an anti-virus program?

I believe I already answered that in my previous post where I said I don’t use AOS

Many AV’s include these extra features now days, your choice whether you think you need them or not, that’s why their optional.
