Oblivion drops to desktop and freezes on avast update.

I am running a XP SP3 system.

When playing the Steam Version of Oblivion the game would minimise and when maximised again it would be frozen.

Took me a while but realised that each time it happened coincided with Avast auto updater running current version 8.0.1489.

Doesn’t happen if I adjust it to manual update so it is restricted to the update function.

Anyone got any ideas?

Do you have “gaming mode” enabled? Are you playing full screen?

Both fullscreen and gaming mode enabled.
As I said it seems to occur only when an automatic update occurs.

This is also happening whilst running Skyrim and has the same effect of minimizing the game and freezes it when auto update kicks in does gaming mode prevent avast from taking priority or does it just stop the notification popups.

Gaming mode should prevent avast from taking priority and dropping full screen apps to the tray if it is to work correctly but does it?

If it’s anything like my issue (slow computer, eventually crashing games even though my computer should be able to run them at max settings), then it’s the “deepscreen” feature that Avast added in one of their updates. Go to settings → antivirus, then deselect deepscreen. You’ll see a HUGE jump in quality.
