I downloaded the latest version of avast! home a couple of days ago. I am running windows 98 with IE 6. When I attempt to install, an error message pops up stating that ODBC drivers are missing or corrupt. It gives a Microsoft page to go to for downloading these but it goes to a general page and after moving around to find ODBC drivers, different ones are listed. I have no idea which to download.
What it is, is that your jet drivers are out of date. I’m not sure whether you can switch 98 to xml. Go to thus site and download the latest MDAC drivers http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/results.aspx?productID=&freetext=odbc&DisplayLang=en
You should be able to switch to xml with win98.
First check out this avast! FAQ answer http://www.avast.com/eng/other_questions.html#idt_1406. For avast! Pro users it is best to update the ODBC Drivers, Home users can switch to XML storage.
You can manually edit the avast4.ini file (using a text editor) and change database=odbc to database=xml, this is in the [Common] section.
If this easier option doesn’t work for you (it should though), you will have to download the latest drivers from the link that essexboy gave you.
