I wanted to know how effective a program like Hitman Pro is?
it claims to be multi-engine scanner, so it must be really effective since it use Avira, G-Data and other programs with high-detection rate.
the program is a few megabytes and use cloud scanning, so how you guys rate it? it’s interesting does a program with size of 4 or 5 mega bytes can really have a database of good and bad files? because it does not upload every files to detect, it seems it detect files depending on their MD5 or so.
My personal experience of it wasn’t good the only thing it found were two false positives, which I reported and over a week later they were still detected so I kicked it into touch.
It is free to scan and while you have no infection you don’t need to buy it and also in case of infection it offer free trial license for 30 days, so when a computer is infected once, you can install and use it to rescue, yet I’ve not seen any recommendation for it during healing an infected computer.
even you can let it find the malware in your computer and then remove them manually with your own tools or even just to make sure your computer is infected or not… or another use of it might be scan newly downloaded files, if infected delete file or if it’s clean then use it… what’s against use it when it offer free scan ? ???
they use other AV engines, so not blaming them for FPs, in my case, I tested it to scan an infected computer with 5 Fake AV and did a good job (VirtualMachine), then scanned another computer, clean with common softwares (VirtualMachine), no detection at all, then scanned a computer with Pirated softwares(VirtualMachine), it flagged “Patched and cracked” programs as suspicion but not malware of spyware or virus and itself offer me to ignore files. also it scanned my laptop and said clean (not VirtualMachine).
The detections were uploaded to the ‘cloud’ (boy I’m so unimpressed by that word), and that still came back infected when I know for sure they weren’t.
Hitman Pro is an anti-malware formula (bundle) that was developed by a Dutchman. A lot of IT maintenance firms in the Netherlands used it, it was also popular in Flanders and Afrikaans speaking South Africa. The not free issue was only raised by countries that had stricter rules on bundled programs and there the critique came from U.S.A. & U.K. (Anglo-American). There is now also a free scan on the same basics and formula: http://www.spicylemon.nl/spicyleboratory/ (give in name and mail address and download the scanner on basis ofNOD32 and Hitma Pro 3),
@DavidR: yeah, always ‘cloud’ systems are slow maintained as what I have seen. I need to find some FPs to see how they works on it.
@Pondus: I guess Avira 8 too, it was king of FPs!!
@polonus: Thanks for reply and Link, I did not got point of it, is it an Eset scanner? when beside Hitman Pro what’s point of it? anyway it seems good to use in case of infection
