I tried to update Avast using the offline definitions updater only to be greeted with a message like this:
“This updater is for version 7.0.1500 or older, you’re using version 7.0.2600” Or something to that effect.
What is wrong with this???
First I’m using version 9.0.2600, not 7.0.2600. And second, why doesn’t it work anymore?
It doesn’t work because avast 9 is on a different optimised virus database, so there is a new one for avast 9, it isn’t yet on the page for the other avast versions.

I think they should use different names to avoid confusion!
Are you sure it was that link as it was only a few days ago avast 9 was released. The significance is the 9 in that url path and the fact that its size is much smaller than the other on downloads on the http://www.avast.com/download-update page.
If it is the same one you downloaded, why didn’t it work, e.g. what errors were displayed ?
I dare say that when this version is added to the other page it will probably have a different name.
