I much prefer version 8.01 or .2 but when I download and install them avast! always updates this program without my permission. How can I keep my older program? The new interface might be fine on a tablet or a smart phone but its pure junk on my desktop computer. It’s also anything but user friendly.
They get updated automatically because they’re old outdated versions using a different VPS that the 2014 version, it wont be long now before the next 2015 version is released
For security reasons and perspectives I want Avast! Team to discontinue avast! versions 6-8 and keeping supporting Avast! latest version of 9.0- onwards Avast 2015 aka version 10. It’s only a matter of time that someone or many people gets infected with malware caused by some ways or by DDOS attack (Disturbed Denial of Service) and gets passed on to one person to the another around the globe like DDOS. As the years passes by, Avast! team should discontinue older versions of Avast!
All it takes is for users to get to know new avast! GUIs and a little effort for them. That’s all it takes and use custom installation to include what feature(s) they want or not want. Like security experts say as threats evolve so does security programs.
I for myself and from many years of using and getting to know many different antivirus programs. At present I see AVG and Avast! antivirus programs being the best antivirus software by far. Me (on my laptop) and my younger brother (on his laptop) always uses the latest version of Avast! and only my desktop always uses latest version of AVG Free. My respect and gratitude goes to both of these two antivirus and thanks heaps
I am still shocked to read this from RejZor via here https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=156014.30 (down that page) and this is one of his his quote “As for the updating of program, backend architecture sometimes demands that. I’m suprised they still support avast! 4.8 (or have they finally discontinued it?)”. Please someone here tell me that this is not true and few people still use avast 4.8 :o :o :o and not to mention still using avast! 6,7, and 8 :o :o :o. I am also sick and tired for telling users to please update their old aged avast to new version and they still ignore that and keep using old aged avast version 4,5,6,7, and 8. Avast! should discontinue support for avast 4.8,5,6,7, and 8, because I am pretty sure they won’t and don’t have enough manpower and resources to put vps and program updates to old versions of avast!. Threat always evolve so should antivirus programs!!!
@Staticguy,
You will soon learn that you can only lead a horse to water. You can’t make it drink that water.
You can only offer a suggestion but you can’t make someone follow that suggestion.
Just because people come here for help, doesn’t always mean that they will take the help suggestions offered.
That’s life!
I am just doing the job that everyone does here and that is to help one another and use latest product version where as they still use old aged version and ignore it just because they claim it’s contains bloatware programs (which I and etc of us disagree with it), claim it slows down their computers, and the list goes on and on… and I know it’s life… It’s all about security and computer security is always the number one priority and it’s all about common sense.
+1
If the new versions are fully compatible with XP (only new features aren’t supported), why don’t we move?
I can understand keep version 9 (specially in some business distributed clients), but older than version 9? Why?
+1 to that Lisandro. Even schools and universities here use browsers, applications, antivirus software, and etc that are fairly 1 year old and they won’t upgrade to the latest version unless they wish to do so because of compatibility issues that may arise and for business and educational purposes which I fully understand it totally. For Windows OS all of them have windows 7 in them which is totally necessary to upgrade.
In this forum I read that very few users are still using avast! 4 and 5 #unbelievable#shocked#fainted#cannotunderstand
I also agree and would add that outdated security software as well as “the car” with no maintenance puts you, me and the dog at risk.
Our internet experience is not isolated, nor is driving on public roads; one persons lack of vigilance can and often does effect other uses as well.
A possible reason avast! needs/wants users to move off of older versions is because maintaining vps updates for these older versions costs money and resources that could otherwise be put to better use elsewhere. As the vast majority (if not all) of these older versions are based on the freemium model; they are free to use but still cost avast! money to support.
Not to mention a higher risk of malware infections as older versions are obsolete in real-time protection capabilities.
