Once again, the AVAST interface is NOT showing up completely on my screen... I cannot renew my free license

Once again guys I cannot renew my free license. The interface is NOT, AGAIN, NOT in the right DP so I only see part of it, thus there is no selection showing to renew my free license. I tried lowering the screen from 300 to 200 sure that would work, but no, the interface just got smaller.

So, how the HELL do I renew my free license??? I’ve gone to the site, etc. NOTHING… is this a way supposed to FORCE someone to pay…?

PLEASE help with what I’m supposed to do. Thank you!

Presumably you have previously been able to use the Avast UI in the past, outside of renewal ?

I have been using Avast Free for over 21 years and no problems with the interface, my settings for display sizes and resolution.
Current system Windows 10 - 15.6" Laptop at 1080p to an external 27" external monitor at 1440p 2560x1440 resolution.

So some information on your system might help.
If in going from 300 to 200 made it smaller what happens if you go in the opposite direction to 400 say.

Hey, thanks for the fast reply, I appreciate it! IDK… The interface for the longest time, probably the last couple of years at least has always appeared incorrectly on my screen. It’s like the picture inside the interface is way too large and I cannot scroll down where I THINK THE select button is for renewal. I can try the larger setting, but I don’t think that will help. I’m running Win10 on a PC, 55" screen UHD resolution. I’m just now thinking that MAYBE I have that button selected on my Display setting where it says ‘Make objects look bigger’ or something like that? I’ll check to see if I can find that and deselect it, maybe that will help. I just wish through my Account here I could simply renew my license instead of having to go through the interface. Seems pretty basic to me that they should have a selection for that right here under one’s Account. Thanks again!

Ah, there we go… As you can see there is nowhere to scroll down to select the ‘Free’ AVAST, all it says is ‘DO YOU WANT TO UPGRADE!’ :unamused_face:

Unfortunately the Free renewal is through the User Interface and for as long as I can remember the User interface has been of a fixed size.

This was a real pain in the backside for very low resolution monitors as it was too big to fit on the small screen/resolution. But you should be able to resolve that on larger screen resolutions.

Did you try going to a higher 400

Or perhaps ‘Make Objects look Smaller’ rather than larger.

Nope… Windows has apparently ‘Improved’ the settings. Now, when you try to go to ‘Personalize’ or ‘Display’ or ‘Appearance’ you just go to the generic ‘PC Settings’ so I don’t see that choice anymore. Oh well… I THINK what I did last year is let it expire, remove the program, reinstall and MAYBE just start over. I guess I’ll see… I would THINK that this would be a fairly major thing with a LOT of people, but being that they have done nothing about it I guess not. Thanks though!

I can recall from a long time ago if you let it expire but kept on using it, it did renew.

Outside of this issue with trying to renew were you able to access the Avast UI normally with the settings you have ?

Yeah, pretty much… I don’t really do much with it except check for updates (which I think it already does automatically) and set it to Silent Mode not to be bothered and leave the Shields in place, that’s about it.

This is certainly strange that the UI would be fine for normal usage, but not to renew the free.

What happens if you try to go in to the UI via the Avast Tray Icon, right click and select Registration ?

I’m sure if I just allow it to expire OR if they see it is expiring and maybe send me a more direct e’mail to renew or something, then either way I can get it going again I would think. Thanks though!

I have never been sent a renewal email in the 21 years i have been using Avast Free.

As far as I’m aware that is generally for the paid products.

Have you tried unplugging the hdmi cable from your 55" and seeing if its normal size on the laptop screen also turning uhd off if you can or back to hd only.
I have no idea im guessing this could be something to do with hardware and not software problems otherwise we would be seeing hundreds if not thousands having the same issue.
Like David never had an issue on win 10 plugged into 24" screen or win 11 on laptop screen but im on the paid version.
Think ive seen 3 posts this year about this but a lot of people dont come back once theve got it sorted so as to help others out with a fix.

This seems to be a Windows issue and not Avast … something on your display resolution or refresh rate need to change to default. I had the same problem with a different program that didn’t scale to the size I have set in windows, so check your scaling settings also.

You say you’re on PC. With a 55" screen that hopefully means you have a discrete graphics card? If so, try to see what happens when you connect your screen to your motherboard’s onboard graphics. Either DP or HDMI, depending what you have available. Don’t forget to enable onboard graphics in your EUFI/BIOS first.

Maybe your desktop will show up with the Avast GUI the right size.

Before all that I’d also try to lower scaling all the way back to 100%. Just as a test to see if that fixes the problems with Avast. You can revert back afterwards.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I would also think that if this were common a LOT more would be asking about it. A bit of an odd one for sure…
