Opera 7.60 beta 4 & downloads [SOLVED: a prevx issue]

HI folks :slight_smile:

Ever since updating to 4.6.603, i have serious probs in tryin to download anythin in Opera (both in the beta 7.60 & final 7.54u2)

Here is an example, i went to Avast site to the new 4.6 version for my security cd (like to have latest versions on it) Opera then opens the open\save dialog, i click save, it then open the explorer save dialog & promptply freezes Opera, the explorer dialog is not responding & same with Opera (both appear in Task Manager as not responding & wont allow me to terminate them, only way to get rid of it is to reboot.Firefox allowed me to get the file ok.

It did this last night as well when i tried to download Mirc from the offical site :frowning:

Does disabling webshield solve the problem?

Nope m8, it dont, i tried doing that 3 times last night while tryin to Mirc :frowning:

Tried pausing & terminating it & persisting the change.

I still have it on the taskbar as i doing things the now & cant reboot for the moment

I’m wondering where he got 7.6 beta from since that is a rather old beta version.
And is officially not available for download anymore.

EDIT:
I am running Opera 8.0b1 (registered) and can’t reproduce the problem.

Yeah Vlk it’s XP Pro SP2 with all updates.

I not sure of the exact build of opera other than it 7.60 beta 4, i cant rebbot the now so will post correct build version later.

@Eddy, the version im using i got from a offical link at the Opera forum, i heard that Opera 8 beta had a lotta probs so not tried it, i also have 7.54u2 installed

It is still listed in task manager as not responding both for Opera & the download dialog.

The beta’a of Avast didnt have this & i not changed any settings.

Given it was not a problem in the beta releases my guess would be that it must be something else (the WebShield module hasn’t changed much since the late betas). What about a firewall? Do you have one? Which one? Does termporarily disabling it make any difference?

Hi

It was PrevX 2 home that was causing it, it had been updated a hour or so before avast was, pc been on constant the past few days (of course i rebooted after both updates)

Anytime i tried to download anythin in opera (no matter what version) a few secs after the open safe box appears opera appears to freeze, clicking the open/save box just makes it say not responding, i cant do anythin else in Opera other than minimise it, but it then seems to eat up mem & really slow system down after time, both opera & open/save box appears as not responding in task manager, i cant even terminate usin task manager.

If i uninstalled PrevX 2 then opera worked fine & i could download, install prexex agin & same prob, will get in touch with them & see what it could be.

Sorry for the false alert, i had the web shield off for a bit (testing) & be fore i could download in opera, after startin web shield i couldnt, also prevex was appearing on startup with protection disabled & when i clicked to start it, the windows installer came up & installed it.

I think the pc basically had a brainfart ::slight_smile:
