Opera Saved Sessions

I barely started messing around with the Saved Sessions function on Opera 9.50. Critical question: When one deletes the Private Data … Cookies, History & Cache included … would Saved Sessions remain intact? Are those Saved Sessions saved in some totally separate area that would NOT be affected by the Cache being purged?

Hi Chim -

I am not sure this will help but you might want to view the link below on Tabs & Sessions :

http://www.opera.com/products/desktop/tutorials/tabs/

I hope this helps you.

And if the above does not help, you can try looking through their forum or ask your question on the forum.

Heyyy, Charley! I didn’t immediately find anything in there yet regarding the Saved Sessions. Of course, I can’t say that I tried every navigation avenue in there either. ;D But Hey, the Tip of finding an Opera Forum is an excellent idea. I did already go and find the Opera Forum area as per your suggestion. Sometime later today I’ll go Sign Up, Join and Dive In. Someone’s bound to know the answer to my question. And I’ll also inquire there about that aggravating, elusive Msimg32.dll File that Opera 9.50 wants, to get rid of that annoying message upon opening up Opera on my Windows 98SE computer. I installed Opera 9.50 on someone else’s computer this past Saturday and am jealous ;D that that Windows XP computer didn’t put out that annoying message of needing Msimg32.dll updated.

Thanks again for the Opera Forum Tip, Charley! Now my ultimate conundrum is finding just the right PASSWORD for that Opera Forum. ;D Always a stressful task. Something that’s NOT easy to crack … yet that flows smoothly and is NOT easily forgettable.

You are welcome, Chim … glad to have helped in a small way.

As for a password, use something like this :

2 letters > 1 numeric > 3 letters > 2 numerics

… or something similar while keeping the letters/numerics in a pattern that is an easy movement for the fingers on the keyboard. Once your fingers “learn” the pattern, it will be as easy as pie.

Opera’s Saved Sessions will remain after Deleting Private Data.

Actually, I already found out the day before yesterday that for a FACT, Saved Sessions do NOT remain intact after Deleting Private Data. Well, it depends on ones definition of “intact.” When I made my initial inquiry, by “remain intact,” I was referring to — would the Saved Session’s Full CONTENT of my niece’s Blog remain intact and handily available … SAVED in some alternate Secret Place that was NOT the Opera Browser CACHE, thus still allowing rapid loads of the Blog after the Private Data had been deleted … especially including the all important CACHE.

I posted up my inquiry also over at one of the Opera Forums. A poster similarly posted that YES, the Saved Session would most definitely indeed remain intact as the Saved Sessions were saved in the Sessions Folder in the Opera Folder. It sure made sense as I verified that Folder did exist. With some trepidation, I still managed to muster up the courage to throw the dice and GULP! Delete the Private Data … including the CACHE.

Verdict? POOF! Aww MAN! The “CONTENT” of my niece’s Blog was GONE! Oh sure, the title of the Saved Session could of course still be found in the Saved Sessions area. And yes, clicking on that would of course still bring up the Blog. But, now it had to be done all over again via loading it from the Blog’s website … VERY slowly … 2 hours or so. :o While I was fuming and disappointed, I nevertheless HAD to test and find out what the results would be of of this experiment. The results were inauspicious and obviously NOT what I had hoped for, but at least I ascertained that the Saved Sessions DO need the Browser Cache intact in order to maintain the Saved Sessions CONTENT intact. Saved Sessions will save what Tabs you had open and stuff like that … but obviously NOT the nitty gritty micro detailed content necessary to actually draw / display the pages rapidly.

I finally found a Fix for my whole conundrum. I installed a 2nd Opera in my computer yesterday. So, now with Opera1, I do all of my regular stuff and can Delete the Private Data, including the Cache anytime I want. I’ll then use Opera2 only to view & update my niece’s Blog. On that one, I will NOT Delete the Private Data, thus the Blog’s CONTENT will remain intact.
