When using the browser Opera in Windows Vista, how does one know if they’re getting the security updates (as explained in this article) when the program isn’t being updated in the other areas? (And the version number isn’t changing.)
Also, assuming one’s receiving those security patches, will his Opera version 36 be as safe and secure (or very close) to the latest version of Chrome and Firefox? What is your opinion?
Regardless, how does on ascertain that they’re receiving the security updates, and If one is getting them, is his Opera as safe (or close enough) to the latest Chrome and Firefox?
Look at the people who come here that have their browser hijacked and related problems.
The majority are using Firefox and Chrome.
And I don’t mean the absolute total amount but per percentage wise.
It really is easy to see if you have the update(s) or not.
Look at the devellopers website and compare the version number there with what you have.
e.g. for Opera 12.18 is the security update for verssion 12.17
@Eddy: I am using Windows 7 with the latest version of Opera as stated in my signature. Before I was using firefox but when it gets updated in the add/remove program list it doesn’t uninstall the previous one. If I uninstall the old firefox version, both of them gets uninstalled. Also I was using Google Chrome, it gets updated and when it asks for restart it doesn’t restart automatically and the icon in the taskbar at the right side of the start button shows the symbol of google chrome. After i restart my laptop the google chrome icon suddenly dissapears :-. I don’t know what’s wrong but I now use Opera Browser, it works just fine even after automatic updates
Can you give me a link to that specific page, as I checked the dev site and haven’t found what you describe.
Also, I have build 36.0.2130.75, not 12.17 or 12.18.
