Opera v 10 (Kestrel) news

Hi all!
Here’s the news about the new Opera release. Unfortunatelly, we still need to wait alot of time :-[

Take care.

It’s a pity that opera does not offer the same features of Firefox with extensions.
It’s a very good and fast browser, stable, but I miss lots of features that I have on my Firefox…

Hello Tech!
There is a thitd party build based on current version of Opera called Opera- AC (goes from "Advanced Configuration’) in consist some build-in plugins , such as Dr.Web link checker, ad- & banner blocker, advanced spell checker, & other usefull things 8). See here: http://www.opera-ac.com/

Take care

I think without doubt NoScript is the most important extension someone should look at as a plug-in for opera. But I have too many extensions that make browsing much better for me. So I can’t see me using opera any time soon.

Well David, as a matter of fact it’s your life, & it’s only to you to decide what browser to use ::). BTW it was only an informational thread

I know it is only informative, but the limited plug-ins is also informative. there are many who like opera and wouldn’t use anything else.

Actually, new version of Opera will be 9.5 (http://my.opera.com/desktopteam/blog/kestrel-is-coming), not 10 ::slight_smile:

Oops! sorry for that :o :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks. But I’ll need to wait for the final AC version. No time for beta tests on a secondary browser like in my case.

When there is something I can’t do with Opera, I use Firefox. When Firefox can’t, I go to IE (M$ updates, BitDefender online av scan or NOD32 online av scan). Otherwise won’t use anything other than Opera.

This you can do in Firefox for sure. Just use IE tab extension and you’ll download the plugins for authenticate Windows into Firefox.

I just downloaded Opera 9.23 to try it out again and it lasted a grand total of 30 minutes, I still don’t like it. I find Firefox much more flexible and configurable. I still find the interface quirky and didn’t like the fact it imported my IE favourites on installation when my default browser is firefox.

I had to delete everything that was imported and the manage bookmarks makes this a real tough job not being able to select everything and delete them folder by folder and import my firefox bookmarks.

David -

When I downloaded Opera, I did not get the importation of IE favorites. I think, if I remember correctly, that was an option that I denied. Well, I started with Opera 8 and have continually updated through 9.23. So, I can not be sure if that option would be in the current complete download of Opera 9.23 but I would think it would be.

Anyway, if you do not like Opera, it’s your choice and that’s ok.

I saw no options and I used the custom install.

David, there’s an option in File menu: see attached image

Yes there is an option in the File menu, but it is a little late as it has already imported the IE favourites during the installation and you have to delete all of those and then import my firefox bookmarks or you would have a right royal mess with duplicates etc. all be it the import created a bookmarks section for ‘Netscape’ which had to be changed.

When I uninstalled it I wasn’t to impressed when it chipped in IE is not your default browser or words to that effect would I like to make it, absolutely not. I decided to take the time to fill in the why I have uninstalled form only to be further hacked off when it opened IE and not my ‘default’ browser. It almost seems it is trying to avoid firefox, its primary competition.

Sorry guys I just didn’t like the experience.

There is another alternative called Netscape which does allow most of the Firefox addons.

As I already said, this is your life, & your choice is up to you 8)
Take care.
