OSD_Main.exe false positive

I already submitted, but every time I load up my Alienware laptop now Avast! tells me there’s a Win32:Evo-gen [Susp] virus in the file OSD_Main.exe (the process being OSD_Service.exe, both located in C:\Program Files (x86)\OSD). These are linked to Dell’s ‘On Screen Display’ program for volume graphics, etc, and have been sitting happily on my system unmodified since early 2010, so unlikely to be anything suspicious. Oddly when I restore OSD_Main.exe and do a folder scan no virus is detected anywhere. In any case I just thought I’d note it here.

It is a file created by aliens
Google gives only 2 results for it and that makes the file at least very suspicious.

Hello,
send the file to virus@avast.com, put “False positive” to email subject.

Milos

If you Google “OSD_Main.exe” “alienware” in one search (with quotations) you’ll find a bunch of hits - it really is associated with Alienware/Dell. I screwed up the title of the thread initially and put ‘OCD’, hah. It’s still weird restoring the file and scanning the folder shows nothing (it seems only to trigger when loading at startup), but I’m 99% convinced this is just a FP.

Will do!

Same issue on my girlfriends alienware just now :frowning:
