OT - WOT (Web of Trust)

This is off topic, but I saw some mention in a few threads about the browser add-on called ‘WOT’ (Web of Trust).

Is it any good? Worth adding to browser.

Thanks guys.

WoT is very good and I use it all the time with W98SE and no slowdowns experienced.

Its not perfect, but it’s helped to keep me free from infections.

My regards

Yes, it is relatively good.

For the future the General forum would be better as in the avast 4 Home/Pro forum it is, WOT (Way Off Topic) ;D

Oops, sorry. I fogot which forum I was in :-[ ::slight_smile:

Thanks though.

I use it (I’m a die hard Firefox user), and I find it really helpful. As a wild guess I’d say that it’s correct over 95% of the time. I also always contribute with the scorecards and comments on the sites I’ve used be it as a customer or as a member. It’s really worth installing.

According to their admins, they don’t base their rates on the members’ opinions only, cause there may be bias and manipulation. They work with some companies that rate e-businesses and make a very complicated algorithm to come with the final rating. They have a page where they explain how it works.

Does WOT slow down browsing on dialup? With dialup, I really can’t afford to lose any bandwith.

No real impact on browsing at all.
For me any impact was only on searches and WOT wasn’t heavy there either, the others I tried did have an impact more so if two were used/installed.

It acts together with Google, you type in the search and when the results are listed, next to them WOT gives you a circle, green, yellow, or red. I have a very unstable cable connection and I haven’t noticed absolutely no impact on browsing when I make queries, and d00d, I do it all the time!!!

A warning: the last version has a bug, and sometimes you need to reload the page, cause the rankings don’t appear. The developers have been warned, and they release new versions all the time, so it’s nothing to worry about.

I think of WOT as an extra measure to protect ourselves on the net. It’s never too much. And it also rates bad e-businesses, so if you’re into online shopping, it’s an extra layer of protection.
