Hi…

Uh, check your smtp setting in your email client? Did your ISP change something without you knowing about it. This happened to me once.
Did you upgrade to the beta version? Or you’re talking just about the VPS update?
Which is your operational system and email program?
Did you solve this? We’re having the same problem and are very frustrated trying to fix it - nothing helps.
With avast Internet Mail provider and your firewall off I can’t see why it might be happening.
What are the errors that are being displayed when you try to send email ?
Please be as detailed as possible, if possible post a screen shot of the error.
What is your email program and what is your OS ?
Not that I doubt you are having a problem but I doubt that it is exactly the same we don’t know very much about Tracy Robyn’s problem.
So can you answer the same questions we asked Tracy ?
When you say nothing helps, what have you tried ?
ok, details:
the error message:
Task ‘shawmail.gv.shawcable.net - Sending’ reported error (0x800CCC60) : ‘Your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server has reported an internal error. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP). The server responded: Your IP is presently being blocked, Please call your ISP for assistance.’
we use outlook 2003
OS is windows XP home
we can recieve and not send email
I say we because it is happening on both my husband and my computer
we have talked with our internet service provider, shaw, who ran my husband through a series of things including disabling avast, trying outlook express, and other things I’m not aware of.
they said at shaw that their information is showing that it is a problem with our anti virus application and we should go to them.
what else can I tell you?
thanks
sandic8,
are you using avast’s Outlook plugin or the Internet Mail provider?
If you are using the avast Outlook plugin (the recommended way for Outlook) then avast has absolutely nothing to do with the delivery of the mail messages, it is all done by Outlook itself and I think we must look for another cause for the problem.
If you are using the Internet Mail provider then does the delivery of outgoing mail continue to have a problem when the Internet Mail provider is terminated?
hmmm. here’s my ignorance coming - I didn’t know there was an Outlook plugin, so unless it happens automatically, I’m not using it.
should I be?
the oddest thing is that this is a new problem. just started this morning. Everything has been fine until today.
Simple answer - yes you should be (if you would care for more advice it can be provided).
But while you ponder that - how about the answer to my question on the Internet Mail provider.
:-[
didn’t answer that question because I didn’t understand it. sigh.
what do you mean by an internet mail provider?
if you mean things like yahoo, hotmail, gmail? I have no problems when I use my gmail account on the internet.
when I have the problem it is with with Outlook and my Shaw account, which is our local provider.
If you double click on the avast icon down near the clcok in the system tray it should give you a display showing the avast “providers” that you have running. Like the Web Shield and the Standard Shield etc.
Can you let us know which providers are turned on for your system?
The Internet Mail provider means the part of avast that scans email that you access using a mail client that downloads mail to your system from a mail server out on the Internet (like your Shaw account using Outlook).
I know it is a bit confusing but it has nothing to do with “Webmail” … that is mail that you access directly through a browser, like Hotmail, Yahoo etc.
Once you open the On-Access Scanners windows, you should see something like this (see image), if you don’t click the Detail…>> button.
In my image the Outlook/Exchange provider is Greyed out not running and the Start button is the only active button, so like mine (I don’t use MS Outlook) yours is probably Terminated also. Once started, you will need to ensure the avast! plug-in is enabled in Outlook 2003. You will also need to terminate the Internet Mail provider, which is used for other pop3 email programs excluding MS Outlook or MS Exchange.
thanks to both of you. that’s very clear.
and this morning my email is sending. I give up!
all of the providers are running - including the Outlook/Exchamge and the Internet Mail.
should I leave it like that now since it’s working?
Why not? ;D
Computering is not a determinist science ;D
If you only use Outlook 2003 I would say Terminate the Internet Mail provider, some (perhaps Alan) would suggest you leave it on (and set to high sensitivity) as it could give an indication of malware on your system sending out spam but not using your Outlook email client.
The choice is yours, sorry for passing the buck ;D
Computers don’t you just love them, now there not working now they are and o changes ;D
Welcome to the forums.
