Outlook 2003 Compatibility

Ever since upgrading to 10.3.2225, I’ve had problems with Outlook 2003. When trying to open the address book, an error occurs: ‘The messaging interface has returned an unknown error’. Trying to delete a single instance of a recurring task also usually deletes all instances of the task. Clicking ‘To’ or ‘Cc’ or ‘Bcc’ also fails with the aforementioned error message.

I am not the only one who believes Avast is the problem: see http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2003-outlook/the-messaging-interface-has-returned-an-unknown/61a12b68-8cfd-46f9-b69e-b154ecba065b?auth=1. Note that uninstalling Avast, or removing some of Avast’s registry entries, cures the problem.

If you would like any more info about my system, please ask!

Hello,
thank you for the report I will notify our QA to look at this issue.

I have run into the same problem on my wife’s computer (Win 7 32 bits, Outlook 2003 SP3). Clicking on the “To”, “CC” or “BCC” buttons generates the following error message: ““The messaging interface has returned an unknown error when sending mail. If the problem persists please restart Outlook.””

I have temporarily resolved the issue by deleting Avast entries in the Registry, but look forward to a program update that will solve the problem properly.

Hello guys,
we know about this problem and it should be fixed this week by micro update.

Thanks,
pm

That’s good news! Thanks!

Same thing is happening when opening any MS 2010 application in Windows 7.
For the meantime, I will be uninstalling Avast until a fix is generated. >:(

This absolutely isn’t the same.
But if you want me to look at it, send me a crash dump.

Thanks,
pm

has this been fixed yet ???

Unfortunately not, we have a little trouble with update process but will be released very soon.

Thanks,
pm

Are we talking hours or days ??

I hope it will be released in 24 hours.

Thanks for keeping us informed.

I’ve been impressed by how well Avast has responded to this issue—given that it affects a product that even its manufacturer no longer supports!

Any update on the “update” ??

Guys, please, just wait. Right now it isn’t up to me… I try to appeal to release every day :-/

Thanks for all you do
it is appreicated  8)

Agree 100%.

Guys, it should be out now.

Thanks for patience,
pm

Thanks pm! Seems to be working, although maybe that’s because I’d previously unregistered asOutExt.dll.

I see a couple of new files in Avast/x64 dated from this morning’s update. One of those looks like it should have replaced asOutExt.dll, but didn’t. Hope all is okay!

05-Aug-15 10:21 AM 498,920 asOutExt.dll
09-Sep-15 06:19 AM 496,872 asoutext.dll.1441743585935
09-Sep-15 06:19 AM 223 asoutext.dll.sum.1441743585935

This is temporary file. Will be replaced on system reboot.

Thanks again pm. Your support is great!

I’d better reboot my computer then. I normally only do it every few weeks.
