Outlook 2013 stops responding when switching to calendar

I opened Outlook 2013 today, read some mail and switched to the calendar only to have it stop responding. Closed/reopened/rebooted etc and still no luck. Decided to disable Avast active shield for 10 minutes and start Outlook and everything worked. Closed down Outlook and restarted active shields in Avast and the problem returned.

This was both before and after updating to the latest build. I have 3 Exchange accounts, 1 Outlook.com and 7 calendars total in the Outlook profile. I’ll have to check when I get home to my desktop and see if the same thing is going on to rule out Outlook…(I am still thinking this is a strange and mysterious .pst or .ost file issue that just happens to be pointing at Avast.)

Any thoughts would be appreciated. I get a couple spams a day with .exe attachments, I cannot run Outlook without avast up and running.

Perform a clean installation of the latest avast version.

I’m having no issues with Outlook 2010 and Avast.

If you think it’s related to avast… it might be a corrupt avast install. This sometimes happens during an upgrade between versions.

I’d recommend a clean install. If this doesn’t fix the issue, I very much doubt it is related to avast!

Note: It’s important you used the stub online installer from the one I linked… NOT the offline one.

Note: You need to be ONLINE during this install (online installer works in all cases whereas offline sometimes doesn’t)

1.Download your version of avast! and the avastclear tool:
Avast Free Antivirus
Avast Pro Antivirus
Avast Internet Security
Avast Premier
Download Avast Clear Tool

  1. Uninstall Avast by control panel [If you don’t have Avast in control Panel go to #3]
  2. Uninstall in safe mode using Avastclear. [Running Avastclear is normal mode will give a prompt to go into Safe Mode]
Check : Once uninstalled check in device manager>view>show hidden devices if there is anything related to avast with a yellow triangle… if so, uninstall it and reboot.
  3. Install the version you downloaded.
  4. Reboot.

Note : If you have a paid license, insert the license key/activation code after the reboot at stage 6.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. It’s better to ask than make a mistake and start over again with the process.
