outlook express not scanning

Hi.all…(Hope this is in the right place.Newbie) Running xp professional sp2.Outlook Express 6 (?)Avash free home edition and spybot .Couple of weeks ago Avast updated and asked me to restart computer.Noticed next day ,that I had no spam emails .Normally 80 to 100 per day.Happy days or so I thought .But then,No spam folder or anything Possibly nothing at all to do with Avast when contacting web sites ,noticed that I was getting no return emails.Have Tried ISP (Pipex) ((Indian calll center)) .Re-configured incoming pop3 and smtp.,even posted on a couple of forums .Mostly comments about "what are you complaining about no spam for ".Normally when inbox opened I would get in title ( spam detected ) now nothing .Down to 2/4 emails from people directly in my address book.Also avast icons disappeared from taskbar,and in start menu only folders.Possibly nothing to do with Avast ,but being told about DBX corruption etc.etc. is not making life any easier.Would appreciate any help anybody could offer.Thanking you addboat

We will need more information to be able to help you:

  • Which OS are you using? Is it up to date?
  • Do you use a firewall? Which one?
  • Do you have any other antivirus installed in your system? Did you have in the past?
  • Any other security programs that could interfere?

Which is your Windows? 98, Me, XP, Vista?
Do you use any other antivirus in your computer?

Can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair).
If this does not help, can you uninstall / boot / install / boot again?

Hi.Tech.Thanks for reply.Its …(os).xp pro.sp2…Outlook express I think 6…Firewall windows.Updates tried sp3…but would not install ,so deleted (i think ) Os.came with a rebuild from shop here (closed some time ago) and when I went to validate …Guess what??Was running Avg but quite a while ago.,been with Avast for long time now.Managed to sort out icons.Guy on Tech forum asked me to download ComboFix and Windows KB310994-SP2-PRO-BOOT Disk.ENU.exe…Had to disable Avast ,so had to uninstall /restall and reboot.This because It would not work properly again (hence icons) Avast updates daily ,but couple weeks ago it asked me to shut down and restart.Before ,always in the line was (spam detected) but the email came into my inbox,now it seems not even to reach there.I have emailed various companies,and have had nothing back ,but as I was purchasing items ,I expected replies.Sorry if this all sounds a bit plain ,but a getting older guy in modern computers is like taking flying lessons for the first time at ninety.Everything else appears to be okay on system ,but its a bit like having a phone that only rings out .I contacted Pipex(my isp) but due to the person having limited English I found the information muddled.If they (Pipex ) had said "Oh yes we have changed your filtering ) fine I disike spam as much as the next.But I would like to have the option of deleting my own emails …Thanking you again …addboat
