Family member tried to send photo but I recvd following msg:-

A message filter removed the following attachment(s) from this message: Uncle Wilf.EXE, Uncle Wilf 1.EXE

Is this Avasts doing???

Phil,

This is hard to say based only upon what you stated.

Internet Explorer also has the capability to block such attachments in email from being opened.

Avast has the ability to block a user from opening .exe file attachments and other similar files in email which may contain viri. It is one of the greatest features of Avast.

Normally, Avast will alert you when it takes such action.

The “message filter” has me puzzled. Do you use any proxy filters or specialized browser such as Avant, MyIE2 or Mozilla which all have blocking filters?

Easiest way to determine, is to shut down Avast On Access Internet Mail and Standard Shield modules and try to open the photo again.

You can shut the modules off by right clicking on the A ball, selecting On Access protection. The modules show on the right. Click on the one you want and it will take you to it’s menu where you can shut it down.

Note: Any module you shut down will reactivate on boot unless you ask Avast to “persist”.

Good luck
