outlook express

i had to uninstall my office program with microsoft outlook 2000 because of a missing data1.msi. so now i have outlook express 6.0 with winxp home sp3. i’m having problems with avast 4.8 home edition recognizing outlook express as my email. the on access scanner shows 6 of the 7 providers even when my outlook express is open. no scanning of the email is taking place.

do you have any suggestions? I used change in the add/remove to delete the outlook/exchange rebooted my computer and then added it back in thinking it would then go with my default email program.
but it didn’t work.

thank you for your help.

It’s normal… The 7th provider is Outlook plugin for MS Outlook.
For the Express, there is the Internet Mail provider.

thank you for your input - so the internet mail will automatically scan without me seeing any visual sign for example the “avast” icon when scanning?

hope your day is perfect.

i did change from silent mode to provide input on scanning - so it is working perfectly. thank you so much.

To see if avast! is scanning emails, check one of these points:

 1. Is the avast icon (the special one of email scanning) be shown in the system tray?

 2. Is your email header with the lines X-Antivirus: avast! (VPS XXXXXX-X, XX/XX/2008), Inbound message and X-Antivirus-Status: Clean? (Right click the message, choose Properties and Details)

 3. Are clean notes added at the bottom of the email? (Internet Mail provider settings)

You can test the security of your email system here: http://www.gfi.com/emailsecuritytest/

thank you for the info - i am getting the scan and message.

i will do the email test link, too.

sincerely,
