Have set up Outlook Express, with Gmail. but when I try now to send mail from outlook, I get this:(see attachment) has some thing to do with the server 127xxx, am now lost, Thanks for any help.
I think it’s missing the @gmail after the user and the port number must be correctly set.

Tried it both ways Tech, same thing. I put in the server # when following there instructions. out smtp 465. in imap 993 Must not be right.
That is what I followed spg SCOTT, Thanks
The problem was you were trying to configure the GMail account on Outlook Express to go to GMail via the avast Internet Mail provider.
This must not be done - the avast Internet Mail provider cannot scan the secured connections that GMail requires you to use with their servers.
Scott pointed you at the correct direct connections that are needed for GMail; you need to stick with those.
You are both right !!! I opened the wrong link !!!
Hopefully it works for you now

This is what I get now, after new setup, (see attachment) When I tried to send a test email. Thanks
Could it be that you have missed the .com?
It isn’t shown in the error message, so it’s not very clear whether it is there
→ pop.gmail.com
sure did !!!. Incomming working !!!. Still have to work on out going. Again thanks for putting me on the right track!!!
glad that its working for incoming now
The outgoing should be:
Port# : 465 or 25
Hope this helps

Set for 465. see attachtment. I don’t know where it is getting . or using mail.isp.com ?? in th error message. isp is my isp. ??
Sorry, Another RESET CHECK. Here is the Attachment !
The only thing that I can think of is that you have not set the outbound server as:
From the image it looks like you are trying to use a different server to send your messages (mail.isp.com)
also the help page did say that the port # was: 465 or 25, so this could also possibly be the problem

Still working on It Scott, thanks for the come back. Have checked all you mentioned, and all are set correct. It all did work before ISP.com switched to gmail. I will work on it till I get It. ;D
Almost certainly nothing to do with ports but how you are using OE.
You still have your isp.com account in OE and it is almost certainly set as your default account.
When you create a message OE automatically uses the address adn server of your default account for the message. If you want to use a different “from” address and server you need to use the drop down arrow at the right of the from address as you create the message and select the address and server you want to use for the outgoing message.
Or you can decide to make your Gmail account your default account.
The only Account I have set up right now on OE, Alanrf, is (pop.gmail.com) no other accounts. You lost me on the: If you want to use a different “from” address and server you need to use the drop down arrow at the right of the from address as you create the message and select the address and server you want to use for the outgoing message. Thanks for dropping in, appreciate it. (P.S. incoming works fine) I don’t know where this isp. thing is hidding.
Sorry to disagree with you but in reply #13 in this thread you posted a screenshot that shows very clearly that you successfully completed a connection to your isp.com account (via the avast Internet Mail provider).
