Outlook - Office 365 conflict with AVAST

Hi Outlook - Office 365 has stopped synchronizing my gmail accounts, been through troubleshooting whit Microsoft and it seems to be a problem with Avast Free antivirus, as when Avast is turned off email work all OK. All my email settings are OK and this problem has just occurred today. There have been no changes to programs etc.

Does anyone have any ideas how to resolve?

Repair Avast:

  1. Avast GUI → Settings → Troubleshooting
  2. Click on ‘REPAIR APP’.
  3. Follow instructions.
  4. Reboot.

Unfortunately the problem has come back after I logged back on.

I have had to go into Menu / Settings / Protection / Core shields / Mail Shield

to untick “Scan inbound emails (POP3, IMAP4)” and " Scan outbound emails (SMTP)"

and it will now send and receive all emails all OK. I tried to repair AVAST again with the same results.

Any other suggestions?

  • OS…? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP/Build…?)
  • Other security related software installed…?
  • Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?

Hi,
how do you sync your Gmail? Via POP3 or IMAP? SMTP is only used when sending an email - is disabling SMTP required for receiving the emails or only for sending?
