P2P does not start-up anymore

Hello All
I am brand new to “avast”, in fact my 1st introduction to it was this morning.
Installation and all went fine[home edition with installation type ‘minimum’], however I find that my P2P programme “emule.exe” now refuses to start up. I double click the icon , and nothing happens. Obviously it has to do something with “avast”, since prior to ""avast"s installation, I was not facing this issue.
So, I tried to troubleshoot this myself. Inside “avast”, I ‘terminated’ the ‘P2P shield’ and as an added measure , unchecked all the check boxes on the ‘Programs’ tab section of the ‘P2P shield’ [ via the ‘customize’ button ]. and just for the records, I have also disabled the ‘outlook/exchange’ resident one, since I do not use outlook.
I have restarted my PC , but still no joy.
‘emule’ does not start up. However ‘bittorrent’ is fine, even before and after "avast’ installation.
Finally , I know, uninstalling “avast” will render emule again , but …
I was wondering ,If I could get some tips or ‘nice-to-knows’ on why the P2P ‘emule’ is not starting up , then I would certainly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

Can you check if the process emule.exe is running in background when you try to start it again?
I see no incompatibility between avast and emule in any of my computers…

No, it never starts off. There is this initial moment of activity on double clicking the desktop icon . The PC makes the usual ‘busy’ noise and the LED for the H.D activity goes up ,but then nothing happens. It just dies down from here onwards. Neither does Windows task Mgr. show any emule.exe activity neither does , and I happen to have a XP tweaktool ‘TweakNow powerpack’ tool, shows any emule in the Processes manager.
I understand that ‘avast’[version 4.6-763] is only a AV programme and should have absolutely nothing to do with a P2P prog. such as emule, but this is weird. and it subtly tells , there must be some connection between these two, even though acclaimed not.

Hello All

A brief update.
Issue is resolved. I have a ‘mod’ version of emule and something got corrupt when I installed avast. I have uninstalled this mod version of emule and reinstalled it again, and all is back on track. I am sorry but this is the best I could explain with my limited knowledge of softwares and PC’s

Thanks to all.

Kind Regards

Glad you came back with the resolution, this may help someone else, welcome

What is mod?

Yes, thanks for coming back with a solution, Shovon!
Please come back often, learn more, and maybe help others.

Tech - by “mod” I will guess that Shovon means a modified version of emule. Since I do not use such programs, I do not know what kind of “mod” version is being used.

Thanks Charley… for non-native English, the abbreviations could bring some difficulty

Hello There

I am very sorry to throw in that bit of Confusion.

But actually that’s how this emule client is called [Black Hand Mod ], and I quote from ‘http://www.random-abstract.com/software/’ :-

“The Black Hand Mod is a special version with many extra features not in the standard Emule”

and Thanks to charley for providing the clarification.

Thanks all

Kind Regards

 Rather than a “suspect” P2P, why not use a safer & cleaner
program like “Shareaza” available from www.shareaza.com

Rather than a suspicious emule version, use the official one… no fear 8)
