If you haven’t already done this - try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.
I’m also seeing ‘The package is broken’ all across my network although I don’t understand why it is advised that I repair the many installations of Avast! when it looks like it is the latest downloadable definition package that is hosed?
Well I have just had 100811-1 update and no issues, though that is on avast5, which is why the question about what version of avast as there are effectively two virus signature streams.
i’m a newbie.
I also got ‘package broken’ today. I have now downloaded v.5 and wonder why I didn’t get alert that an updated version was available. Guess I should have checked. I’m a free home user and Avast has kept me trouble free until last nite. I visited a website that I often frequent, a forum, clicked on one of the forum topics and a video jumped in which I could not end. I had to shut down firefox, then uninstall it the next day and reinstall. Right after I got the Avast package problem, so I kinda figured whatever that virus video was, it had also attacked Avast. Especially as it had sneaked by Avast. So now I’ve downloaded v5 and am running a thorough scan, which is creating it’s own problem, but I’ll check the rest of this forum to see if there’s already a topic on it. Just fyi: it’s taking about an hour and claims it’s checked 12GB so far. i don’t have that big a system! So I’m not sure what’s going on.
