Packers

If selecting Scan All Files on the Areas page, does that include packers as well or is it necessary to select the appropriate packers in addition?

The “Scan All Files” options controls what is being scanned, whereas the setting of “packers” are rather about how the files are being scanned. So, these settings are rather independent - if you select “all files” to be scanned but don’t set any packers, the content of archives won’t be scanned at all. If you select all the packers to be unpacked but not “all files” to be scanned, some files from inside of the archive will be ignored (those considered harmless).

Hmm - It seems like I’m going to have to think about this a bit to make sure I understand exactly what happens with these options. Thanks for the explanation anyway.

OK
I was trying to say that there are two things to distinguish:

  1. a .ZIP file being scanned - in the sense that the container (“outer file”) is scanned, just like any other file
  2. a .ZIP file being treated as a ZIP archive, i.e. its structure is read, the internal content is decompressed and scanned afterwards

Thanks for the clarification. Given your original answer then, which option would be the most sensible to set for adequate security without having a significant increase in scan time?
