Participating in the Avast! Community

As unticking the box in the Setting section under Community re-ticks itself upon going back into the program why is an option given.

exacta,
The setting to participate in the avast! community, either ticked or not ticked is sticking OK here, over multiple reboots.
I’m using 2014.9.0.2007 on a Windows 7 Pro 64 bit system.

Hello, olddog. Having installed Avast 2014 2007 over 2006 which was installed over the previous v8 series I consider I have got off lightly as the only fault having installed onto Vista Home Premium and Windows 7 Home Premium is that of having to disable the Avast Online Security add-on as it was causing IE9 and IE10 to crash. So the fact the Community box re-ticks itself is another fault, albeit a minor one, is acceptable. I did try a repair on one of the computers (Vista) but both symptoms remained. Thanks

Exacta,
I initially let the program update itself from 8 to 9, and then to the subsequent 2007 patch.
In my case, the Deep Screen process didn’t work anything like how it should, and I finished up:-

  1. Uninstalling the program using avastclear.exe in safe mode.
  2. Using RejZoR’s Avast Clean up tool
  3. Doing a clean install of Avast 2014.9.0.2007

Everything now seems to work nicely. including the Community setting being remembered.
Perhaps it is worth you considering that option.

Hello olddog. I have two computers with Vista Home Premium and my wife has Windows 7 Home Premium on her one. The Community box on her one, after unticking, remains unticked. One of mine is only used to watch films as it is hooked up to the TV and is not used a lot. That is the Vista one that also stays unticked. The main Vista one which I use daily is the one that, after unticking and then going to another page of Avast and then going back to the Settings page shows the Community box ticked. Being kept ticked is not a problem but I wondered why it is the only one to do so. Then again, reading on the forum about so many others having severe problems I wonder what variables must be involved for Avast not to be troublefree for them.

Re my last post yesterday re installation of Avast 2014.9.0.2008 on 2 of the computers I have. Today I installed it via downloaded file on my wife`s Windows 7 Home Premium. Did a reboot as asked and did not have to reboot again as all the Security Shield parameters fell into place. Enabled Avast Online Security but disabled it again as IE10 crashed. What is working on all 3 computers which failed on prev 2 updates is the voice accompanying the popup panels informing of updates.

AOS working OK here in IE10.
Check that Tools->Internet Options->Advanced->Security->Enable Enhanced Protection Mode is UNticked.
