Password-protected files

Hello group,

With Avast 4.7, when the scan was finished, I got a long list of files that could not be scanned because they were password-protected. Most of them related to Spybot S&D. OK, I understand this. But with Avast 4.8, I don’t get that list. It just returns to the standard user interface. Anybody know why?

Thanx,
Chet

Are you sure the files haven’t changed? (e.g. that Spybot didn’t update their files to some different format in between?)

The Spybot files you mention are .zip recovery files. I suspect you don’t have a tick in the “test archives” box in the Avast 4.8.1201.

Edit: To add some detail. These zip files are placed in the C:\Documents & Settings\All Users\Application Data\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Recovery folder (current Spybot version 1.5.2.20). When the “Test Archives” box is ticked the current version of Avast! 4.8.1201 will list them as “unable to scan - archive is passworded”

Hi Olddog,

And I suspect you’re right. Where do I find “test archives” to apply the tick?

Thanx
Chet

Chet,

Right click the “a” ball in the task bar, then click on “Start Avast! Antivirus”. After the memory check has completed and you are in the simple user interface, the “Test Archives” tick box is between the blue “2” and the slider for Quick, Normal and Thorough Scan.

Edit: You used the word “apply” which was probably a typo - you need to “remove” the tick if you want avast! to NOT scan archive files.

Found it. Thanx.

Chet
