Payment Options

Avast won’t seem to let me renew by any other means than a credit card. It gives me the option of either paypal or credit card, but when I try to use the paypal option it asks me for credit card details, which is hard for me to supply as I don’t have one or plan to get one. If there is a non credit card way to pay, it has been made extremely difficult to find. Coupled with the apparently default setting of auto-renewal, I see this as a sneaky way to get more money from people that don’t pay close attention to the withdraws from their accounts. I’m going to use a different anti-virus service.

You have looked wrong. There is also the pay by wire option and there is ofcourse the option to get it from a vendor in your area which may accept other payments (cash, check etc).

Keep in mind that PayPal is essentially a credit-card service (unless you’re one of the rare minority who does banking with them) which offers the benefits of your anonymity with regard to the seller (other than, of course, your shipping address) and as an intermediary in settling buyer/seller disputes.

And also, credit cards or equivalent are the normal method of payment on the internet, like it or not. If you can’t or won’t get an account, I’d suggest you set up a prepaid-card (Visa and others offer those) or better yet, a gift card, both of which carry relatively small service fees compared to credit-card interest.
