Pb Avast 5.0 and W7 64bits torrent

Pb after few day (without shutdown W7), can’t launch software, can’t open file, can’t launch task manager, can’t open session if lock, can’t shutdown! only close open software.

Same Pb after few hours if use utorrent to download and share.

No problem after uninstall Avast 5.
I have tested in 2 computers! same pb with Avast 5.

Any other security program or antivirus installed?
Is your computer virus free?

no other security program, and virus free… same problem with new install of W7 64bits (default install), no upgrade, no other security program install before.

no solution ? no update ? 5.0.418 is latest ?

without AVAST (uninstalled), computer work fine… utorrent, ftps alldays without shutdown… now more than 12 days… with AVAST only 4 hours; with AVAST disabled only 1 days!

only one solution:
You know other good free AV, for W7 64 bits, and have quarantine ?

the must be something wrong with your W7 install, I never had such problems. Which version of W7/64 are you using?

edit: you can try this version (454), but i doubt that will solve your problem…

W7 Ultimate, DVD is original, and in 2 computer same problem if I use torrent. New install: less than 26 days now!
Perhaps you not use your PC more than 2%… and How long time do you use Windows before reboot or shutdown?

edit:
thanks for link  I go to test

Perhaps you not use your PC more than 2%..
;D :D

I suspect the problem is in using uTorrent and having the p2p shield scan everything. This is a known problem with the p2p shield and uTorrent. Disable uTorrent scanning in the p2p shield section and report back.

yeah I heard of this too but the OP mentioned he had other issues in Win7 when Avast5 was installed, ie launching software etc…and anyway utorrent is un-ticked by default in the p2p shield.

I test beta; if not work, I uninstall only P2P field.
I think disable not work; If I disable AVAST (all, and finish monitor process; but without uninstall and stop AVAST drivers) I have problem after one day with utorrent. (perhaps less, but I not see in the night if system accept RDesktop)

Some more info on the uTorrent issue.

@Logos: I know what he said but since he also said this is happening on two computers while torrenting i suspect he indeed has enabled the uTorrent p2p shield in avast, could also be he is running the shields at HIGH. From what i have been able to tell he actually has 2 issues: 1. the uTorrent problem and 2. system freezing and unrelated to nr.1(this one is the harder one to diagnose). There is also this thread which may or may not be related:

@baudav: We need the following info from you:

Which version of avast! are you running ?
Do you have the uTorrent scanning enabled in avast!'s p2p shield ?
Is your system OCed ?
Is your system clean from infections ? (do a scan with avast! and MBAM) http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

Avast version 5.0.418 (now I test 5.0.454 with default setting, and wait for result)
first time, I enable utorrent in P2P shield; 2nd time I have just install avast and wait (to send memory dump to avast).
I see with 5.0.454, utorrent is disable in p2p shield.
OCed = OverClocked ? no
Systeme is clean

I download only movie with utorrent in the test

same problem with beta; and utorrent is disabled in p2pshield !

with only ‘agent de fichier’ (files shield) same problem !!!
AVAST 5.0 not work on Windows 7 64bits !

perhaps same problem if I use VMWare (not tested without AVAST)

Are you using the Free AV, or the full Internet Security suite?
The firewall in the IS used to have some issues with μTorrent but these were supposed to be fixed already some time ago.

What does the Task Manager say on the Performance tab, Kernel Memory section?

Thanks
Vlk

I use Free AV, and when problem appear, I can’t launch task manager, can’t launch by CTRL+ALT+SUPP.

If I launch task manager at windows start, when computer not respond, CPU+memory utilization is normal. CPU <5% and 1GB RAM used/3GB.

You can launch it after a day of up time, though (for example), and see if the numbers grow (they aren’t supposed to grow much).

If I launch task manager at windows start, and when computer not respond: CPU+memory utilization is normal. CPU <5% and 1GB RAM used/3GB… not excessive charge…

I have send memory dump (ctrl+scroll lock) to avast support French… but today no response :frowning:

Where is the dump file?

Thanks
Vlk
