pb to send email

Hi,

I have installed Avast yesterday evening working with Windows XP. Everything works fine except to send and receive my email. Outlook express send me an error message each time I try to send/receive my mail. To solve the problem temporarly I have disactived the email fonction in the Avast menu.
Do you have any idea how to solve my problem

Thank you in advance for your feed back

Welcome to the forum!

What OS do you have? WinXP?

What is the error-message you get?

Do you use a firewall? Does the logs from the firewall say something?

What is your firewall ?
Does it allow access for ashMaiSv.exe ?

Hi,

Thanks for your interest in my problem.

I use windows XP and the firewall from Windows. Below the message I get from outlook express

Le serveur a renvoyé une erreur. Compte : ‘Serveur de messagerie’, Serveur : ‘pop3.free.fr’, Protocole : POP3, Réponse du serveur : ‘-ERR concurrent connections limit in avast exceeded(pass:20, processes:emproxy.exe[19], msimn.exe[1]), there is a collision with another program’, Port : 110, Sécurisé (SSL) : Non, Erreur de serveur : 0x800CCC90, Numéro d’erreur : 0x800CCC90

If you have an idea I take it
Thanks

You almost certainly have some leftovers from your previous antivirus program.

See this thread:

Do you have Outlook Express configured to log on using secure password authentication? A workaround is to untick this, I think.

The program that is causing a clash/collision is emproxy.exe and if you do a forum search for emproxy.exe you will find a recent topic that points out that emproxy.exe is a part of McAfee anti-virus.

http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/emproxy/

Description: emproxy.exe is a process associated with McAfee Email Proxy from McAfee, Inc..

Having two resident scanners installed is not recommended as rather than provide twice the protection it can cause conflicts that could leave you more vulnerable.

Using windows add remove programs uninstall McAfee, you may also need to run this to ensure all remnants are removed. McAfee has an uninstall tool that you could run to ensure any possible remnants are removed.

Thank you all,

Indeed I still have Mcafee running on my PC. I’m going to desinstall it and will keep you posted if it works

Thanks

No problem, glad we could help.
