I’m using avast free edition and upgraded to Avast 5 awhile back and it was working fine but recently after installing an update to the program my pc has been freezing just after windows starts up, a triangle with an exclamation mark appears by the avast toolbar icon and therafter nothing happens, everything is just frozen. To fix the problem I gotta re-boot the pc and 2 out of 3 times it boots up fine. I reinstalled avast numerous times and I’m having the same problem. I tested my pc by leaving avast unistalled for a few days and it never give any startup problems. I don’t know how to overcome this problem. I’ve been using avast for a long time now and never had this problem with avast 4.8. Is there any way to fix this? If not is it possible to get avast 4.8 again? But I can’t find it on the website. Hope this can be sorted out since I really don’t want to change to another anti-virus since I have had no virus problems since using avast.
Uninstal avast 5 and reboot
uninstall avast 4.8 and reboot
install avast 5 again and reboot
if you ever had any other AV program on the computer you should run a removal tool for this program so all leftovers are removed
you can fin uninstaller tools here http://uninstallers.blogspot.com/
Hi
I did what you said but the pc still froze when i booted when avast 5 was installed. I did use commodo security in the past but uninstalled that couple months ago, no other antivirus or security program i used previously. I looked through my back up disks and found avast 4.8 so i installed that and the pc isn’t freezing up anymore. I guess i’ll just continue using 4.8 and i’ll try avast 5 again when a newer version of the porgram is released, hopefully it wont do the same thing again.
