My computer keeps rebooting after installing avast pro.
I’m running Windows XP Pro SP3 and avast is up-to-dated.
I’ve read all threads on this issue and done all suggestions such as cleaning up the former anti virus using a removing tool
or booting with the safe mode and delete&reinstall avast!.
Unfortunately, nothing is effective.
A clear thing is that the PC stops rebooting once I remove avast!.
So it’s definate that avast causes the problem.
You can uninstall avast! from the safe mode, it’s not necessary to reinstall the OS.
Are there any minidump files corresponding to the crashes? (Windows\Minidump folder)
Which is your firewall? Which was your old antivirus? How did you remove it?
Igor, please, always keep this feature. Some programs can’t be uninstalled in Safe Mode as they need Windows Installer running. It’s a must have feature to an antivirus.
You know what’s funny? If you want your program to get certified by Microsoft as “Certified for Vista” (or whatever the exact name is), you have to satisfy a number of conditions… one of them being that your installer is in MSI format (i.e. you can’t have a custom installer, like avast! has… very stupid requirement IMHO).
So, it will most likely need the Installer service running to be uninstalled…
