PC locks and the 'UI Failed to load' exclamation mark message...

Since the new update my pc is suffering from continuous from the following 2 problems.

  1. After an extended time (never the same) an exclamation mark turns up on AVASTin the bottom bar showing :
    UI Failed to load
    This is really embarassaing.
    AV Service is not responding.

    One options says ‘Exit’ the other says ‘Restart service’.
    Restarting works, but the problem insists.

  2. My desktop completely locks so that I can start no application any more nor is it possible to CTRL-DEL (soft reboot).
    This is a very serious problem as the only option that remains is to hard-reset the pc and restart.

I’ve tried to run the repair option and later also to completely uninstalled AVAST (also using your uninstall program in safe mode) and reinstalling a new version after several reboots.
This problem has been plaguing my pc now for a week or so.

Nothing works to resolve this problem, if anyone has experienced this or knows a possible solution, please share.

What OS/SP ?
How exactly did you removed avast ?
What exact avast version ?

-Windows 8.1
-I went into safe mode and uninstalled Avast internet service, rebooted, ran the avast clear.exe software to get rid of the rest in safe mode, rebooted, and installed a new avast internet service software and credentials.
