PC Tools Firewall Plus

I finally got rid of Comodo Firewall. It was driving me crazy, and downloaded PC Tools Firewall Plus. I think CharleyO was the one who recommended it. It is working great so far and isn’t as intrusive as Comodo. thanks for the tip.
RoRo

Yeah it’s a nice firewall. Shame they don’t have a 64bit version though…

For any one else who might be interested, you can safely download it directly from PC Tools:

roro,

Online Armor is good firewall. I use Online Armor Free (download) on my laptop & Online Armor Full (paid) on my desktop, I got it for free from Give away of the day.

I find Online Armor really long to install on my pc test so i wouldnt install it on my real one. Outpost and Pc Tools are contrary got a great GUI which is also easy to the user to configure the program of what he want. Correct me if im wrong.

Everyone’s system is different, we should use whatever works best for us.

OA installs pretty quick for me. Scores great in http://www.matousec.com/, runs lite & fast on my computers.

Set up takes a little time, select the programs you want to allow and you won’t be bugged by pop ups.

I got Google Toolbar for pop ups which is inclued in Vista. So well i would say Vista Firewall has done great for me. But if there was another choice i would say PC Tools or Outpost Firewall.

Mr.Agent,

By pop ups I mean firewall pop ups wanting you to allow or block. I guess I should’ve said “alerts” ???

Google Toolbar wont work for firewall pop ups. ;D ;D ;D

BTW, Online Armor has a File System Scanner, it scans for viruses (on-demand only, Free & Pro ). Good for a second opinion to avast!.

Well im happy with the Vista Firewall.

I thought this topic was about PC Tools Firewall Plus ???

Well we talk about Firewall that important point of this topic right ? ;D

Bob,

As you are very aware ALWIL is about to release avast! 5 with a fw, these fw discussions may still help them polish their much anticipated fw. 8)

Comodo is really annoying with it’s messages. OA added about 2 minutes to the normal boot time. i’ve tried them both. but PC Tools FW is really great. no problems at all. can only recommend it.

Yes Comodo is really annoying. My self i find Vista Firewall more cool than him. I didnt got any problem with my security and im happy with it

Mmm … ok, let;s phrase like this :-

What do you think, is PC Tools better than Online Armor, Outpost, Vista and ZoneAlarm in terms of Firewall ? ;D

From the above, can be sum up as Comodo is the worst ? ???

I wish I could go back and fine out the difference because a while back I downloaded a PC tool and it was rogue. can some one explane that please. was it maybe a copy cat type of program.

I just dumped ZA and replace it with PCTFP. I join you RoRo

I don’t use any software firewall as it is redundant with my built in firewall in the DSL modem provided by my ISP.

I interviewed Bruce Harrison who is a developer at Malwarebytes – the company who created Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware. We discussed computer security for the home user. Below is the list of questions from the interview.

Both videos are well worth watching.

Does it give you outbound protection and report?

No, this is the same old link being trotted out again.

This hasn’t changed either - Any malware that manages to get past your defences will have free reign to connect to the internet to either download more of the same, pass your personal data (sensitive or otherwise, user names, passwords, keylogger retrieved data, etc.) or open a backdoor to your computer, so outbound protection is essential.

As you are aware not every infection comes from the internet and no single program so it doesn’t have to negotiate your router/firewalls inbound protection and any outbound connection from your system allows the co-responding inbound connection in unmolested, so you are hoping your AV detects whatever that might be; so outbound protection is essential IMHO, especially for your average user.
