PID 7 and PID 64128 -- Please help

Hi there,

I ran avast today and it came back with like 738 infected files all called PID 7 or PID 64128. It says these are rootkits or hidden process and it will not let me delete them. It say’s Error: The system cannot find this file"

What do I do? I updated and ran Malewarebytes and it came back with nothing. As did a Trendmicro housecall scan.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Let me guess…your Avast! is not up-to-date?

See here for something that seems similar>>http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=86890.msg701051#msg701051

Even if it were able to - Deletion isn’t really a good first option (you have none left), ‘first do no harm’ don’t delete, send virus to the chest, the default action (a protected area) or Do Nothing (see image example) and investigate as you are.

I think I’m up to date, but I will try that first. Thanks! I’ll be back if that doesn’t work.

I tried moving to chest, but that was a no go. I did try other scans like Malewarebytes and Trendmicro housecall, but they found nothing.

That is what I suspected as it would be no different to your trying to delete, which is why I said ‘even if you were able to’ Given the error message The system cannot find this file.

I believe this to be an issue effecting a small number of users (why only a small number is beyond me) as in all the tests I have done with various scans over XP and win7 I can’t replicate it. There are a few other topic in the forum relating to these PID detections and so far we haven’t been able to pin down the cause, but I don’t think you have anything to worry about given that when trying to deal with them you get the message ‘The system cannot find this file.’

Use the avastUI, Maintenance, Update section and ensure you have the latest avast version, 6.0.1289 and the latest Virus Definitions (VPS) version, currently 111027-0 and update if required.
