Hi,
What is the operating system, is any other security software installed?
What happens when you try a repair via the control panel>manage programs?
If a repair can not work, I suggest a full reinstall from scratch.
-Download the full setup file, ~40Mb, from here, and save it to your desktop. (do not download the universal installation file.)
-Download the Avast Uninstall Utility from here.
Go offline, if you aren’t able to disable the Avast self protection module and uninstall Avast, reboot into safe mode,
-Run the file aswClear.exe. (The uninstall utility.) Reboot into normal.
-Install Avast from the setup file you downloaded.
-Reconnect. Get updates, All should be good.
To Tarq57: Thank you very much, your reply was very helpfull.
I reinstalled Avast from scratch and it is OK now.
I did below procedure:
-Downloaded the full setup file.
-Download the Avast Uninstall Utility. (aswClear.exe)
-Started Windows in Safe Mode
-Open (execute) the uninstall utility
BTW, when I tried to uninstall it before I got below error message:
I have Windons 7 on my laptop.
The error message (which matches the statement in your first post about being unable to uninstall) is the reason the uninstall utility was recommended and run.
The message doesn’t say anything, really. But it was likely to be as a result of Avast’s self protection module, which needs to be disabled to allow a normal removal.
In your case I didn’t bother suggesting that, because you said you couldn’t repair it either, so I just took the shortcut, which appears to have been effective.
