PLEASE HELP! Message 0xc0000417

I got this message:
“AvastSvc.exe Error
The exception unknown software execption (0xc0000417) occurred in the application at location 0x7858ccd5”

Now Avast doesn’t work (protect from viruses) and I don’t know what to do… I’m bad at computers so maybe someone could help me? And please explain what and how to do.

I use Windows xp.
Thank you!

do you have any other security programs installed

Got exactly the same problem/error message today:

“AvastSvc.exe Error
The exception unknown software exception (0xc0000417) occurred in the application at location 0x7858ccd5”

Avast Free on Windows XP SP3.
Besides Comodo Firewall (Antivirus and Defense+ permanently deactivated) no other security programs running.

Repair install doesn’t work. Should I try a clean uninstall??
Grateful for help/advice!

No I don’t. Everything was okey but I went out for 20 min and when I returned it was like that. And I got red X through the icon saying avast is unsecured…

Check the thread “Help !!! all avast on every computer has stopped ???”. This is happening to a lot of people, Avast is working on it.

What version of avast! is that?
Do you have any recent unpXXXXX files in C:\Documents and settings\All Users\Avast Software\avast\log?

I have to use a pre-7 version, so I run Avast Free 6.0.1367.

However, I wanted to rule-out a vps update problem, so I downloaded and ran the vpsupd.exe from http://www.avast.com/download-update - and Avast started working again!
Seems to have solved the problem, at least for me…

I am the originator of the other thread about this problem. After you did vpsupd.exe update, do you still have version 6.0.1367 or did you end up with a newer version which I would not want ?

Thanks

It only updates the virus definitions, not the program, so I still have 6.0.1367.
BTW, it’s still working perfectly, even after a reboot…

Holy hell it worked!!! Thank you very much!! I have version 6.0.1367, too. Downloaded vps and it worked. Tkanks a lot again!
And maybe you should let people know on tread “Help !!! all avast on every computer has stopped ??” maybe it will help them, too?

Just did that - with “disclaimer” - pointing to this thread…
